The story describes two brothers, Prometheus and Epimetheus, who were Titans. Prometheus cared about the future and helped humans, while Epimetheus focused on the past. Prometheus took pity on humans who were living miserably without fire. He stole fire from Jupiter and gave it to humans, despite Jupiter's refusal, in order to improve their lives. two brothers. They are not like men but they are ones that like a god that lives in the mountain top. They are the sons of the titans that fought the Jupiter. And been sent to the bars to the strong prison-house in the lower world.
The elder of these brothers was Prometheus,or
Forethought;his name come from his ability that he was always thinking about the future and making things to get ready what might happen tomorrow,or next week,or next year,or it maybe happen hundred or thousand to come. The younger brother was Epimetheus, or Afterthought;his name come from his ability that he always so busy thinking about yesterday,or last year,or it was a hundred or thousands of years ago, that he had no care what might come to pass after a while.
For some cause
Jupiter had not sent this brothers to prison with the rest of the Titans and Giants
Prometheus did not
care to live amid the clouds on the mountain top.He was too busy for that. While the Mighty Folk were spending their time in idleness, drinking nectar and eating ambrosia, he was commanded to the position upon the plans to making the world wiser and better that it had ever been before.
He went amongst the men to live with
them and help them always;for his heart was filled with sadness when he found that they were no longer happy as they had been during the good glory days when Saturn was the king. Ah,how very poor and wretched they were!He found them living in caves and in the holes of the earth, shaking with the cold because there was no fire at all, dying because of starving, hunted by wild beast roming around and by one another-the most miserable of all living creatures. ”If they only had fire”said Prometheus to himself, “They could at least warm themselves and cook their food to fight with the starvation;and after a while they could learn to make tools and build themselves a shelter. Without fire, they are worse off than the beast and hungry lions” Then he went boldly to Jupiter and begged him to give men fire,so that they might have a nice comfort to the long freezing months of winter.
