 Where does Chess Boxing come from?
The first chess boxing club was
established in London in 1978 by
amateur boxer James Robinson,
although it ended up closing in the
1980, later the first Chess Boxing
Competition took place in Berlin in
2003. That same year the first world
tournament was held in Amsterdam,
where the first participants in this
competition were Lepe Rubingh and
Jean Louis Veenstra.
Is this sport still practiced today?,
In what places?
Since then this sport has been
gaining popularity in cities such
as Berlin, Los Angeles and
London. In the United Kingdom it
is estimated that 500 people
already practice it and in London
there are two Chess Boxing
Clubs.
 WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

The "Chess boxing" consists of a match

between two opponents and lasts eleven rounds
where boxing and chess alternate, beginning
with four minutes of chess game and then three
minutes of boxing, between each round there is
a pause one minute and the players in this time
have to change their clothes. It can be won
either by "knockout", "checkmate" or a decision
made by the judges.
 What requirements are needed?

- Be under 35 years of age.

- Have a suitable physical state.
- Have participated as a boxer in
at least 20 matches.
- Chess scoring system rank at
least 1800.
 Players and equipment
The match begins with a four-minute round of chess. They
then enter the ring for a three-minute round of boxing. The
match consists of eleven rounds in total (six rounds of chess
and five rounds of boxing) with one-minute intervals between
rounds.

Each player has boxing gloves that they take off for the chess
round. Players are given headphones when they participate in
chess so that they do not listen to advice from the audience.
The chess side of the game is played on a twelve minute
clock and is essentially "quick chess". Officials can intervene
if they believe a player is stalling in rounds of chess to
force them to move within ten seconds.
