Learning Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters and major mountain belts
Competency:
Code: S10ES-Ia-j-36.1

CONCEPT:

Map of Active Volcanoes Around the World Description:

The world’s active volcanoes are not

randomly distributed over the Earth’s
surface. They tend to be concentrated in
narrow zones.
Majority of them are found along the
edges of some continents particularly in
the western coast of North and South
America, East and South East Asia. Some
are also found in mid-continents and in
oceans.

But not all edges of continents, mid-

continents, and oceans can be places
where there are active volcanoes.

Map of Earthquake Epicenters Around the World Description:

The world’s earthquakes epicenters are

not randomly distributed over the Earth’s
surface. They tend to be concentrated in
narrow zones.

Some are located near the edges of the

continents; some are in mid-continents,
while others are in oceans.

But not all edges of continents, mid-

continents, and oceans can be places
where earthquakes might occur.

Words Major Moutai Belt Description:

The world’s major mountain belts are not

randomly distributed over the Earth’s
surface. They tend to be concentrated in
narrow zones.

Some are located near the edges of the

continents; some are in mid-continents.

But not all edges of continents and mid-

continents can be places where there are
major mountain belts.
