3. Activity Description –
Participants are to complete an adult color by number picture using their preferred color
methods. Color by number consists of coloring a picture that divides the artwork into
distinct spaces, the intended color of each indicated by a number and referenced from a
key. For example, the key could have a blue box next to the number 1, this would tell the
participant to color all spaces with a 1 in blue.
5. Adaptation: An incomplete C6 Spinal Cord Injury is one that affects the lower end of
the cord near the base of the neck. This injury can result in loss of sensation or
function of everything in the body from the top of the ribcage on down, including all
four extremities. However since it is an incomplete injury, the individual did not lose
all function. Therefore, some sensation, even if it's faint, and movement is possible.
An adaption for this activity could be to move this color by numbers activity to an
online coloring activity. There are color by number apps that allow you to simply
touch the color you wish to use and then tap the numbered areas. This movement of
just touching a screen is less taxing than the fine motor skills needed to actually color
a picture by hand. Also, another adaption could be to move the picture from a table to
a canvas propped up so that the participant does not have to look down to color, but
rather keep their neck in an upright position while coloring.
