If the pipe is moving down in Hot condition, it is compressing the spring i-e spring is compressed.

So it means the Hot


Load is higher than the Cold Load. Because in cold/sustained condition ( Most Left Side Photo), the spring is in
relaxed mode , however in hot condition the spring is compressed. So the Hot Load is more than the Cold Load when
the pipe is moving downward in HOT condition.

If the pipe is moving upward in Hot condition, it is relaxing pre-compressed spring i-e spring is relaxing. So it means
the Hot Load is lesser than the Cold Load. Because in cold/sustained condition ( 3rd Photo), the spring is pre-
compressed , however in hot condition the spring is relaxed. So the Hot Load is lesser than the Cold Load when the
pipe is moving upward in HOT condition.

If the movement of pipe is upward in ;

Spring is pre-compressed If the pipe is moving upward in Hot Condition, it is relaxing the pre-compressed spring. So
Hot Load will be lesser than the Cold Load.
