ASSIGNMENT 7 – TEMPLATE BUILDING

Task 1: Build Template of Income Statement

Task 2: Build Template of Balance Sheet

STEPS:
1. First, open a new excel sheet. Now, start writing the format for income statement and
balance sheet. If you want, you can do it in separate spreadsheets, or in the same sheet.

2. Create a heading with Company Name, Historical Results (under which you would have
the year of income statement and balance sheet generation). Now, start filling the rows
with headers like-

a. Sales
b. Cost of Goods Sold
c. Gross Profit
d. Expenses…………….etc.
Perform the similar process with the balance sheet as well, and start filling the headers
like –
a. Cash and Cash Equivalents
b. Notes Receivables
c. Investments………………..etc.

3. Color Code the sheet. Change all the value cells to ‘Accounting’ type. The color coding
is as follows:

a. Cell with company name would have dark blue background with bold white
text. In the next columns, where you write the heading ‘Historical Results’,
background color should be light-blue and text-color should be bold black.
b. Next, all the calculations cells (like Net Sales, Net Expenses etc) should be bold
black, and have a top line (for sub-heading calculations), top and thick bottom
line (for heading calculations), and top and double line border (for header
calculations).

c. Now, apply formulas for all the calculation fields, like-

i. Current Assets = Sum of all sub-fields


ii. Current Liabilities = Sum of all sub-fields
iii. Earnings before Taxes = Gross Profit – Total Expenses etc.

4. Now, apply conditional formatting in such a way that :


a. Any negative value will be displayed in red
b. Any positive value or 0 value will be displayed in blue

5. Now, your template is ready. To save it as a template, go to File -> Save As.

6. Click on Save as Type dropdown, and select ‘Excel-Macro Enabled Template’.

Click on Save, and the workbook would be saved as a template.

7. Now, to check if the template has been saved or not, go to File -> New. There, you will
see your saved template.
