Abbreviations (US Terms)
St or Sts - Stitch or Stitches
Mc - Magic Circle/Magic Ring
Sc - Single Crochet
Dec - Invisible Decrease
Inc - Increase
CC - Colour Change (counts as a st)Read Me Before You Start
This pattern is worked in the round and using US terminology, and is always worked
in continuous rounds.
The single crochet stitch that is used is the yarn under, yarn over method. This makes
the stitches tighter and the project smaller. You can use standard single crochet
yarn over, yarn over stitch which will give you a bigger stitch. You may have to adjust
the felt sizes slightly.
On page 13, there are templates you can use to cut out your felt pieces.
Stitch markers are helpful to mark the end of your round.
Mc# indicates the amount of stitches to place in your magic circle. Ex: Mc 6 is a
magic circle with 6 stitches in it.
# - Indicates round number. Ex. R3 means round 3
When instructions are followed by a number, you repeat the instruction the number
indicated after the "x". Ex: (Sc, Inc) x2 means Sc, Inc, Sc, Inc.
At the end of each round [#] indicates the amount of stitches you should have at
the end of your round.
Colour changes count as a stitch. To colour change, insert your hook under both
loops, yarn over and pull through. Using the new colour, lay your yarn over your hook
and pull through both loops on the hook. Knot the two different coloured yarn tails
together to secure and prevent unraveling
This pattern uses ONLY invisible decreases. Make sure you do not decrease as a
single crochet two together, as it will create gaps in your work!Body

R3-50: Sc around [18] (48 rounds)
When crocheting the 48 rounds it is helpful to stuff along the way instead of just at the
end. Do not stuff firmly as you will need to curl this part.
Cut the yarn leaving approximately 15 in (38 cm) for sewing in.
Assembly
Start by positioning and pinning the ears and the legs to the piece. You want the legs
to sit slightly forward on the piece so that your Clefairy will be held up by the tail and
the legs and will not be leaning too far forward when you are done. When pinning the
ears, make sure you leave enough space for the head “hair”, it is helpful to estimate
where this will go during the pinning process
See the pictures for the placement.
Sew these pieces into place, stuffing alittle extra before closing up the seams. Make a
knot at the end of sewing in each piece and then hide the yarn tails through the
piece.
cryAssembly Continued
Curl up the hair and using a lot of pins, pin down into position. Begin sewing down the
seam first by folding the opening in half and then sewing down both sides at a time.
Next, work around the perimeter of the curl to secure the hair in this position. Create
a knot at the end and hide the yarn tails through the piece.
Position the tail on the back of the body at the bottom third of the body. It is helpful
to pin the opening and then curl up the tail at the back to see if the body will be held
up at the right angle.
Position the arms at the same time so you can better visualize the center of the back.
Do not fold the opening like the hair was folded, simply sew each stitch into the body,
stuffing a little extra before closing up.
Roll the tail up again and sew around the perimeter similarly to how the hair was
done. Knot the yarn at the end and hide the yarn tail through the piece.Body Continued
Position the wings just above the tail on
the back. Pin them into place and then
sew each stitch of the opening down.
Knot the yarn at the end and hide the
yarn tails through the piece.
Sew down each of the arms, overlapping the opening over each other to make the
arm lay flat. Stuff the arm a little extra before closing the seam.
Knot the yarn and hide the yarn tails through the piece.
Using the templates, cut out the felt pieces and position them on the face. Using
matching thread, whipstitch around each piece of felt and knot at the end. Hide the
tails through the piece, and trim the excess.
Alternatively, you can glue these down to avoid sewing.Assembly Continued
To finish up with the details of the face,
add the lines around the eyes using black
crochet thread or black embroidery
thread.
Insert the needle on the side of the body
and come up through a hole one row
above and slightly outwards from the
eye. Insert the needle one row below and
slightly outward from the eye. Leaving a
small amount of slack, guide your needle
out of and come out of the hole just
above and just outward from the hole just
entered. Slide the needle underneath the
thread and then back into the hole to
secure and shape the line.
Repeat these scuring loops 3 more times
and then hide the thread through the
piece.
See the image on the right for
securement spots.
Pull the beginning thread to straighten
out the line slightly and then trim the
excess.
Repeat these instructions on the other
eye, doing your best to match.Stencils
