Priority Valve - Test and Adjust

Introduction
The following test will provide the transmission lubrication pressure.

Machine Preparation
1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location.

2. Place the steering control lever in the NEUTRAL position.

3. Engage the parking brake.

4. Lower the attachments to the ground.

5. Stop the engine.

6. Turn the key to the ON position, but do not start the engine.

The pressure tap for the priority valve is located on the top of the back cover of the transmission at the rear of
the machine.

(PV) Pressure tap for the transmission main relief valve

(1) Transmission

7. Connect tooling (A) or (B ) to pressure tap (PV) on transmission (1) .

Priority Valve (Test)

1. Start the engine.

2. Warm the transmission oil to operating temperature.

3. Move the parking brake to the Off position.

4. Increase the engine speed to HIGH IDLE. Note the pressure on the gauge. The pressure
should be 2854 ± 125 kPa (414 ± 18 psi).

5. Move the parking brake to the On position. Shut off the engine.

Priority valve (2) is located behind the rear cover of transmission (1) .

The pressure for priority valve (2) can be increased by adding shim (7) or decreased by removing
shim (7) . Each shim (7) has a value of 78 kPa (11.3 psi). Priority valve (2) has six shims (7) that
are installed in the factory.

1. Remove the following from priority valve (2) :

◦ Bolt (4)

◦ Cover (3)

◦ Slug (5)

◦ Spool (8)

◦ Spring (6)

2. Adjust the pressure for priority valve (2) to 2854 ± 125 kPa (414 ± 18 psi) by adding or
removing shim (7) .

3. Remove the test equipment.
