Question
What parameters need to be set for the dynamic brake resistor to function on a PowerFlex 70/700 Drive?

Environment
20A PowerFlex 70 drive
20B PowerFlex 700 drive

Answer
Parameters that need to be set for the dynamic brake resistor to function on a PowerFlex 70/700 Drive are
listed below:

For bus regulation:

Parameter 161 [Bus Reg Mode A] - Must be set to either option 2 [Dynamic Brak], 3 [Both-DB 1st], or
4 [Both-Frq 1st].
Parameter 162 [Bus Reg Mode B] - Only used if a digital input such as Parameter 363 [Digital In3
Sel] is set to 14 [Bus Reg Mode B]. If this is true then it must be set to either option 2 [Dynamic Brak],
3 [Both-DB 1st], or 4 [Both-Frq 1st]
Parameter 163 [DB Resistor type] - Selects whether the internal or an external DB resistor used.
Parameter 164 [Bus Reg Kp] - Proportional gain for the bus regulator. Used to adjust regulator
response (not usually adjusted).
Parameter 165 [Bus Reg Kd] - Derivative gain for the bus regulator. Used to control regulator overshoot
(not usually adjusted).
Parameter 155 [Stop Mode A] - Typically this is set to 1 [Ramp].
Parameter 156 [Stop Mode B] - Only used if a digital input such as Parameter 364 [Digital In4 Sel] is
set to 13 [Stop Mode B].
Parameter 145 [DB While Stopped] - Enables/disables dynamic brake operation. 0 [Disabled]
operates only when the drive is running. 1 [Enabled] operates whenever the drive is energized.
Parameter 153 [Regen Power Limit] - When flux vector control (FVC) is used this sets the maximum
power limit transfer from the motor to the DC bus. An acceptable value is -800%.

Note: Parameter 161 [Bus Reg Mode A] will need to be set to a 0 of any type of external Regen Supply,
Regen Brake, Active Front End or an external Brake/Chopper module is used.
