When fittings leave factory, plate carrier (Part No, SDM) is enclosed in top chamber to prevent any damage to orifice plate while in transit. Tt also protects orifice plate during hydrostatic line tests, in the event orifice plate is blank. CAUTION: ORIFICE PLATES SHOULD NEVER BE IN STALLED WITHIN BORE OF FITTING WHEN HYDROSTATIC TESTS ARE BEING MADE, 4. After tests have been completed, check for any foreign matter that may have blown down the line and become trapped in center of body cavity. MAINTENANCE It is recommended that all Senior-type orifice fit- tings be operated once every thirty days, Slide valve (Part No. 5) should be opened and closed and lubri- cation applied through Part No, 23. If plate inspec- tion is not required, it is recommended that gear shafts (Nos. 6 and 7) be rotated. Under conditions ©1949 baNUL oninice FING Compan = where there is likely to be an accumulation of sedi ment for any cause, blow-down valves should be in stalled in place of pipe plugs at bottom of fitting and blown as often as required. Plate carrier should al- ways be raised into upper chamber before blowing or cleaning through blow-down valves. 5
