Pakistan Agriculture Sector

Agriculture sector is imperative for the country’s economic growth, poverty allocation and growth.
According to the Economic survey of Pakistan, agriculture is contributing 19% to the GDP of the
Pakistan. However, with the drastic changes in the climate of the Pakistan, Agriculture sector is facing
daunting challenges due to the draughts and other climatic changes. Here is the list of the important
crops that are contributing significantly in the overall GDP of the Pakistan, these are as follows:

 Cotton
 Sugarcane
 Rice
 Maize
 wheat

Challenges faces by the Sector:


 Farmers are unable to receive their deserved income because of the excessive middle man,
which ultimately cut their margin and eventually farmers are left with very meagre income.
 Lack of technology advancement has significantly affected the farmers produce. Also, they are
unable to afford the technology advancement due to high income.
 Most of the land in Pakistan has been unusable/arid due to the high quantity of saline in the
land. This affects the overall production of the crops and resultantly the lesser contribution of
GDP.
