15. A man buys roses at $ 90 a dozen, and five times as many at $ 120 a score; he sells the whole of them
at $ 7 each, and makes a profit of $ 54. How many roses did he buy altogether ?
Let x be the no. of first kind and 5x be the no. of 2 nd kind of roses

90 120
( x )+ ( 5 x ) +54=7 ( x +5 x )
12 20
7.5 x+30 x +54=42 x
4.5 x=54
x=¿ 12

Total no. of roses bought = x+5x = 6x=6(12)=72

16. A boy has 80 coints, some of them $ 1 coins and the rest $ 2 coins; if he exchanged each $1 coin for a $ 5 coins
and each $ 2 coin for a 50¢ coins he would lose $ 10 . How many $1 coins has he ?
Let x be the no. of $ 1 coins and ( 80−x ) be the no. of $ 2 coins

[ x+ 2(80− x)]=5 x+ 0.5 ( 80−x ) +10

x +160−2 x=5 x+ 40−0.5 x+10
110=5.5 x
∴ x=20

Ans: He has 20 $ 1 coins

17. If the acute angles of a right-anlged triangle are (3x+6)° and 4x°, find the angles.
(3x+6)° + 4x° = 90°
7 x = 84°
x = 12°

(3 x+ 6)° =(3 ×12+6) °=42°

4 x °=4 ×12 °=48°

Ans: The two acute angles are 42 ° and 48 °
