QUESTION: How local government, all industry (public and private) and original manufacturer
and their suppliers can participate in ISO 14001 EMS.

1. Including local Governments


- The ISO 14001 helps the local government in some mentioned things, to Improved
management of environmental impacts. They set targets to reduce energy use,
water use and waste to landfill, they also initiated and maintain procedures to
improve efficiencies to defined key responsibilities for achieving targets for regularly
assess progress towards achieving set objectives.

This is also used in conjunction with appropriate goals, in connection to the


management commitment, the standards help to improve the environmental
performance and reduce negative impacts. They also provide an objective basis
for verifying claims about a local government's environmental performance in
its day-to-day operations. Moreover, it helps produce objectives for improvement
and a management program to achieve them, with regular reviews for continual
improvement.

2. All industry sectors including public and private sectors


- The ISO 14001 helps the industry sectors by ensuring the progress due diligence
and on-going consideration of legal and other environmental requirements, to
monitor and measures environmental performance against key indicators. To
add, they will ensure to achieve cost savings to show leadership, nationally and/or
internationally. Lastly, to obtain competitive advantage to compliance as required by
clients, customers and/or regulators and build goodwill from customers, employees
and stakeholders.
Implementing an EMS generally turns the favor to the company in terms of the
bottom line. Cost savings and reduced expenses, liabilities, insurance premiums, and
waste management costs can be made through improved product quality,
competitiveness, and enhance market responsiveness.
Addendum: According to the Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of
Philippine Standards (DTI-BPS) encourages local companies to implement
Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements within their organizations
to reduce the impact of their operations on the environment.

3. Original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers


- Aside from above mentioned, it can also help to assist in identifying all elements
of the current operation and, if possible, future operations, that may interact
with the environment.

Environmental aspects can include both direct, such as those used during
manufacturing, and indirect, such as raw materials. They will also help the
manufacturers in setting up their natural goals, objectives, and targets, which ought to
in a perfect and also be measurable, it somehow can make a difference with the
advancement of control and administration strategies and forms. Lastly, it serves to
highlight any pertinent legitimate necessities, which can at that point be built into the
approach.
