INTERVIEW PREPARATON

1. Question: Tell me about a time when you disagreed with


your supervisor and how you handled it?
Situation: it happened that the repaired pump was always having problems
within a very short period. My manager thought I did not give the right
replacement procedure for the pumps and that was why there was
continuous failure or probably the technicians were not performing the well.

Task: To convince the Manager that I was doing the right thing.

Actions: I researched the internet and checked the bearings and seals for
the pump at the SKF website where the life span of the pumps were average
5 years. Longer so I printed this results and spoke with my supervisor that
the problem was the quality of materials and parts we ordered not the
procedure of work by the technicians.

Result: saved company money for maintenance, got client satisfaction,


reduced down time, helped the technicians to keep their Job, keep my
integrity with the manager.

2. Question: Describe a situation in your past job where


you could structure your own work schedule. What did
you do?
Situation: it happened that in my previous job as a project engineer for the
oil and gas facilities that I had to plan my work.

Task: The following tasks were allocated to materials and spare parts
management. Developing work procedure for work request on rotating and
static equipments. Project control and monitoring

Actions: first I recognized that I had 8 hrs a day. Take a walk around the

4. Question: Describe the biggest mistake you made what


you learned from it and how you applied that learning?
Situation: There was a time I was busy with budget of the plant at the end
of the year. I called the technologist in charge and he gave me the
impression that everything was alright with the plant. So I did not go back to
the plant to take a walk around the plant before going home, to make sure
that everything was alright. Unfortunately, after 2 hrs, it happened that we
had an alarm in the generator room based on the fact that smoke detector
was triggered in cooling system in the generator had no water.

Actions: switch off the generator, Coolant water and check the vanes/tanks
to be sure
Result: I learnt to be very thorough even though everything sounds and
looks good I should take a look around and not jump into assumptions until
personally verified.

5. Question: Describe a situation where you worked on a


team where there were conflicts in personality or
systems and the approach you took to resolving these?
Situation: It happened that I worked with a multicultural team on a project
product development. Some of the team members refused to take my
suggestions can offer solutions.

Task: To work as a team and solve problems together.

Actions: I had to work with them gave very good suggestions to them but
whenever we went to the professor He was always commenting on my
suggestions and my decisions

Result: Most solution ended up with me and the professor kept referring to
my work and with time they agreed with my expertise. We are still friends
today. I learned sometimes it might take time to get the level of co-operation
to make a project work effectively especially when there are personal
differences.

6. Question: Describe a situation where you worked on a


team where there were conflicts in personality or
systems and the approach you took to resolving these?
Situation: It happened that we were in a team, were application of getting
results was based on experience and not documented. Conflicts arose based
on no significant documentation, production team just leaves the work,
usage of equipments we keep replacing parts regularly, no safety procedure
no and the approach to solving the problem was
