Intro

 Vending Machines – Automated 
machines that dispense 
products of desired interest in 
exchange to currency or credit.
 Invented by Hero of Alexandria in 
the 1st century.
 Became famous through gum­ball 
machines.
 Now vending machines dispense a 
wide range of products.
 Beverages, Candies, Canned­
foods, News papers, Bottled 
beverages etc ....

 Currency detector
 Key panel for choice of product

 Currency can be bills, coins or 
pre­determined tokens.
 Recently credit cards, Mobile 
phones (sms).
 Choice taken through the key 
panel.
 Then desired product is dispensed.
Currency Detectors

 Bill/Note detectors use optical 
scanners, while the bill/note 
runs over the thread­mill.

 Coin detectors use electromagnets 
 and slot sizes to differentiate.
 Dispenser

 Have coils to hold the product in 
place
 After currency detector validates 
the coin, motors rotate the 
spirals.
 The packet falls forward and is 
detected by a sensor.
 Sensor triggers a successful 
delivery and motors stop.
Coffee Machines

 Coffee dispenser differ from 
general dispensers.
 Additionally – Mixer, heater.
 Containers have all the different 
ingredients.
 Based on choice and initial setup 
recipe (black, espresso, 
cappuccino, mocha) the 
ingredients are delivered in 
fixed amounts.

 All the ingredients fall into the 
mixer where hot water or milk 
is simultaneously added.
 A small blower blows the 
powedered ingredients to avoid 
lumps and sticking of powder 
to the container.
 Then coffee is dispensed out.
 In case of whipped – sent into a 
whipping container where 
cream is added and whipped 
then dispensed out.
Security and safety

 Vending machines being heavy 
have cases of fatal injuries due 
to crashing over people.
 Vending machines are prone to 
theft and damage.
 Major security issues being usge 
of wrong denominations of 
coins or foreign coins (of 
course of lower value) that are 
similar in shape and size.
 Advanced methods to detect the 
denomination of coin to 
prevent coin fraud.
 Innovations
 Currently vennding machines are used in many fields.
