Nestle, the world’s largest food and beverage chain company was founded in year

1866. It was originally from Vevey, Switzerland and first started as a condensed milk
company. Their mission of “Good Food, Good Life” is meant to provide consumers
with the best tasting, most nutritious choices in a wide range of food and beverage
categories and eating occasions, from day to night.

Digitalization is the way to go to engage with consumers (Nestlé, 2021). Nestle has
previously organized a digital campaign called Kitkat Chocolatory eCommerce
Experience which aid to analyze the personalized chocolate of their customers (EG,
2021).

“If we do not have the right base to start with, whatever we are going to build on top
is destined to fall down.” Nestle’s Global and Analytics Manager revealed in an
Econsultancy event last year 2020 (Hillier, 2020). Hence, Nestle may further improve
their branding to another level by incorporating more digital related method. This will
involve an excellent deep analytical team to uncover customers’ preference in depth
which aligns with operational insights. Such team in a company as data driven as
Nestle would be setting up in a competency centre which entails (1) Data Engineer,
(2) Data Analysts, (3) Data Scientist and (4) Data Architect.

A data engineer is ultimately and IT worker whom designs, extracts and prepare data
for further processing. The prepared data is used for analytical or operational usage.
Their main goal is to make data easily accessible to others. They are to be patient as
the amount of data a data engineer has to deal with is interconnected with the size of
the organization. Team-orientation is much appreciated as they are considered the first
touch of data interpretation to all levels. Being data evolutionary as data is constantly
flowing in massively. Also, a data engineer should equip with programming language,
database language with or without SQL (Structured Query Language) or any other
applicable analytics.

On the other hand, a data analyst is responsible for gathering and interpreting data
from the engineers. They are to be both mathematically and analytically able to
identify trends and patterns from data passed down. In order to carefully scrutinize the
usefulness of collected data or any redundant data, they will have to be meticulous.
Presentation skills is needed as they are bound to make data into a business-friendly
story telling. They do need to be familiar with programming language and machine
learning such as business intelligence as it is a nature of working in a data related
environment.

Data scientist is a big data wrangler who identify and collect valuable data sources in
the sets of structured and unstructured data (Masters in Data Science, n.d.). They are
characterized as someone who is statistically thinking and creative as they look at data
and make something out of it. They are also expected to be equipped with
programming language without second doubt. Preliminary education has to be at least
Bachelor’s Degree for this position.

Last but not least, a data architect is also a visionary that translates business
requirements into technology requirements (Olavsrud, 2020). They design, create,
deploy and manage the organization’s data management framework by liaising with
both internal and external data users. Hence, they are the ones with excellent
communication skills, people skills and a problem-solver. Programming language is
again, a nitty gritty in this.
Data has always been vital to any decision making hence, all these intelligences have
to work hand in hand. Data analysis helps all organizations in terms of discovering
new opportunities or enhancing current situation. Converting business ideas or any
sort of expectations into data analysis is no mediocre job that a normal person is
capable of. Hence, an analytical team exist to tackle this problem. Business analytics
have come to the dynamics era and its importance is inevitable. It definitely is
something all business should incorporate.
