REFLECTION PAPER

BIODIVERSITY IN A HEALTH SOCIETY

Biodiversity in the foundation for human health. Biodiversity provides to us, the conservation
and sustainable significant benefits to our health. In contrast, the continuing loss of biodiversity
on use of biodiversity can provide a global scale represents a direct threat to our health and
well-being without environment a global that is healthy and capable of supporting a diversity of
life.no human population can exist.

Biodiversity provides numerous ecosystem services that are crucial to human well-being at
present and in the future. Climate is an integral part of ecosystem functioning and human
health is impacted directly and indirectly by results of climate conditions upon terrestrial and
marine ecosystems. Marine biodiversity is affected by ocean acidification related to levels of
carbon in the atmosphere. Biodiversity is influenced by climate variability, such as extreme
weather events (i.e. drought, flooding,) that directly influence ecosystems health and the
productively and availability of ecosystem goods and services for human use.

Biodiversity is essential for supporting human life on earth. The health of the natural
environment depends on continuing diversity; for instance, if one species is lost from an
ecosystem, then all the other species in that ecosystem are affected. Biodiversity also is
important for securing the life-sustaining goods and service which and for ensuring agricultural
productively and for the ongoing sustainable use of natural resources further, biological
diversity ensures clean air and water, and fertile soils.

Climate change could also have a serious impact on a human health and could deteriorate
farming systems and reduce nutrients in some foods relationships between human health and
environment raise many ethical, social, and legal by forcing people to choose among competing
values, many of the issues at the intersection of health and the environment have to do with
managing benefits and risk.
