WORSHIP CALENDAR
Sunday 7th November 3rd before Advent
I n recent years November has become the month
when we remember not just those who were dear
to us but also those we never met. It begins at the

In many churches there is a service to remember those

Skelton Parish Council Next meeting 7.30pm, 25th November
2021, in the Village Hall. Following meeting Thursday 27th

St. Giles Opening: St Giles’ will be open daily again from
November - between 10:00am and 4:00pm.
Skelton Village Hall. The Hall will reopen fully on September
1st. Bookings can now be made for events taking place after that

Skelton Gardening Club, We are always pleased to welcome
guests (£3) & new members (£18 for the year). We would like to
invite new members to join us for the many interesting speakers
we have booked for the coming season.
Mandy’s Community Café 10:30am—1:30pm on the 1st Friday
of each month in the Village Hall. Join us for soup, cakes,
refreshments and a chat. Family, friends and neighbours all
welcome.
Skelton Social Running Group A casual running group meets
on Tuesday nights, 6.30pm at the green on St. Catherine’s
Close. We usually run 5km (3 miles) in a small group. Everyone
welcome & if enough people we can split into different groups for
different distances & speeds. Contact us via the Skelton
Community Share Facebook group.
Mobile Library in Skelton. The Mobile Library visits Skelton
every two weeks. Borrow books, update your library card or York
Card, return books from any other York library, & request books
to be brought to Skelton. The library stops in Fairfields Drive from
2.40pm to 3.10pm and Brecksfield from 3.15pm to 3.50pm.

Skelton WI 11th November 7.30pm in the village Hall. This is our
Annual Meeting which will be followed with a flower
demonstration. Daphne from New Earswick flower club is a
NAFAS demonstrator and will entertain us with 3/4 arrangements
ending with a nod to Christmas. Visitors will be very welcome

Skelton Primary School are having an open day at 3:30-5pm on
Thursday 11th November. Please pop in or call the school office

Shipton Parish Council Meetings are now held in person and
will be in the main hall of the primary school on Station Lane until
further notice at 7pm on the second Wednesday of the
month. Members of the public are welcome. The agenda is
published online (Parish Council website) & on the Parish Council
notice board (at the bus stop opposite the pub) at least 3 days
before a meeting. Next meeting will be held 10th November. To

Shipton Space Café & Cinema is pleased to announce standard
open times again. Our group organisers take care to wipe
touchpoints after each event and provide increased ventilation
through the hall to comply with the latest Government

The 2021 playground 100 Club currently has 95 members, if you

Newton on Ouse WI 4th November:- a demonstration of
Inktense pencils on fabric, and an opportunity to have a go
yourself. 7.15pm in the Parish Hall. On 2nd December we
welcome Mike Smith with his Christmassy Rhythm and Rhyme.
The WI is for women of all ages and backgrounds, but Newton on
Ouse WI is facing closure next year unless we can find some
volunteers to join our committee, specifically either as secretary
or treasurer. We have members in Linton, Newton, Tollerton,
Shipton and Easingwold. So if you have been thinking about
joining us, now is the time to step forward, before it's too late.

Book of Remembrance: If you would like an entry for a
deceased loved one in the church’s new Book of Remembrance,
please complete the form on the church website:
www.allsaintsnewton.org.uk and pay the small fee required to
cover calligraphy charges into the specified account. The book
will be on permanent display in the church.
North Yorkshire Dance Academy Classes have resumed on

Shelf Indulgence Cafe: is open once again from 10:30am to
noon on Saturday 13th November. Books, baking, and

Friends of All Saints: Welcome Susan Parry on Wednesday
17th November at 7pm. Author and former forensic scientist at
Imperial College London, her talk ‘From Forensics to Crime
Fiction’, will describe her involvement in murder investigations
and subsequent crime novels. Book signing after the event.
Friends membership £10 annually (£15 for couples) to include a
glass of wine at each event, or £4 per event on the door. All
welcome!
Foodbank Collection: Thursday 11th November 10 - 11am at
the Lych Gate. Items needed will be posted on the community

Macmillan coffee morning held in Newton Parish Hall raised
£770. Thank you to all who attended & donated. It was a good
turn out & enjoyed by all.
Gift Day: Saturday 6th November from 10.30 a.m. to noon at
Wyverns, Newton on Ouse (next door to Dawnay Arms). Raffle,
craft stall, jewellery stall, nearly-new clothing, home baking, gift
stall (wide selection of puzzles), and the Happy Hand-Printer stall
(scarves, aprons, bags, etc.) plus, of course, those lovely
refreshments! Everyone welcome!
New Church Website: Please note the change to a new website
for All Saints available at www.allsaintsnewton.org.uk. Requests
for Friends Membership, Remembrance Book entries or baptism/
marriage enquiries can all be made through the new site.
Christmas Concert: Please put the the church Christmas
Concert in your diary for 7:00pm Friday 3rd December. More
details to follow in the December newsletter.
The Deanery Synod was held at All Saints in October. Clergy
from all over the Easingwold Deanery were able to inspect the
church, and were very complimentary about the church
restoration
Remembrance Sunday On 14th November, there will be a short
service of Remembrance at the Linton-on-Ouse Village
Hall . Please gather at 9:55am. This will be followed by a service
in Back Lane Newton-on-Ouse. Please gather at 10:20am. The
service at All Saints Church Newton on Ouse will start at
10:50am. Everyone very welcome.
