Thirty-first Sunday of Ordinary Time
Sunday, October 31, 2021

Greetings of peace.

All Saints Day is Monday, November 1. It is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year. At the Shrine, we will have our
usual Monday Mass schedule: 6am, 7am and 12:05pm. All Saints Days is a great day to reflect on the saints in our
lives. Which official saints of the Church have inspired you, driven you to be a better person? Who are the saintly
people in your history? Who are the saintly people in your life now? Who helps you to be a better disciple of Christ?
All Saints Day is a great day to give thanks to God for the holiness of others.

This year, All Saints Day is also the date of our primary fundraiser, our Pope Francis Award Dinner. We Franciscans
at the Shrine are grateful to everyone who makes this event successful – Shrine employees, donors, the event
committee, and all of our many partners in our mission. We extend congratulations and a special thank-you to this
year’s honoree: David P. Manfredi, CEO and Founding Principal of Elkus-Manfredi, Architects. We also thank this
year’s Chairs of the event committee: Regina M. Pisa, Chairman Emeritus of Goodwin and Ronald M. Druker,
President of The Druker Company. Our Development Office team, Maryanne Rooney-Hegan and Ariana Green, have
done a great job with this big event.

Thursday, November 11, is Veterans Day. The Shrine’s offices and the booth in the lobby will be closed that day. The
building will open at 10am and close at 1pm. Confessions are from 11am to 1pm, and Mass is at 12:05pm. We are
happy that in October we have been able to re-start our meals for Veterans. We are grateful for those who have served
our country and everyone who helps us support them. Among the friars at the Shrine, Br. John Maganzini and Fr. Paul
Keenan are Veterans.

On Wednesday, November 17, we need to close the building for the day to resolve some outstanding plumbing issues.
The building will be closed all day, with no Masses and no confessions. We expect this to be last in a series of
shutdowns since the start of summer. The good news is that this ongoing work is greatly improving the plumbing in
the building, saving water and generally improving functionality.

Fr. Thomas Conway, OFM

Executive Director

Are you hearing the call to be a Eucharistic Minister?

Do you feel filled by the Spirit to proclaim the Word of God?
We expect to begin training new lay ministers as Lectors or Eucharistic Ministers in November, before Thanksgiving.
We have a particular need for both Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors at the early morning Masses.
Serving in the lay ministry here at the Shrine is an experience like no other; doing so deepens your faith, expands your
understanding of the Mass, and can lead to friendships with incredible people.
