Teacher Professional Growth Plan

Teacher Name: Tanner Abel

Goal #1: To create a more engaging classroom by intentionally integrating interactive activities using technology.

Goal Rationale:
This goal comes from my noticing that I tended to fall back on lecture-style classes when teaching my students through my previous two
practicums. When reflecting on this tendency I immediately knew it was something I had to work to stop. While these styles of lessons do have
their place, having a lot of them certainly does not fit with my teaching philosophy. I hope to integrate technological tools and programs into my
lessons to better engage the students in the material being taught. By doing so I not only believe the students will benefit from higher engagement
but will also challenge me to continually adapt my lessons to best suit my current students.

Goal #2: To read more professional development and teacher resource texts.

Goal Rationale:
This goal comes from my relatively shallow back pocket of resource texts outside of what I have read through my university courses. During the
practicum I would like to expand my knowledge, and therefore my toolbox, by reading a variety of journal articles and books. I hope to finish at

least one book chosen from the University of Lethbridge Curriculum Lab and also finish an article a week from an academic journal. I will be sure
to take notes on each reading that I do so that I can cement my learning and create a reference to return to throughout my career.

Goal #3: To establish classroom settings which encourages discussion through inclusive practices

Goal Rationale:
This goal comes from my belief that should fundamentally be an inclusive practice which acknowledges and includes the student’s views as much,
or more than, the teacher’s. I would like to incorporate the opportunity for students to feel included in the process of teaching in order to foster
more engaged and productive class discussion. To do so I would like to incorporate some practices of Indigenous ways of knowing as well as
experimenting with multiple types of discussion activities.
