Emergency conditions (eg in CPR), which allows direct administration of drugs into the Intra-
Veins To provide rapid response to drug administration (such as furosemide, digoxin) Patients
receiving continuous large doses of drug therapy via Intra-venous Patients in need prevention of
fluid and electrolyte disturbances Patients who receive blood transfusions Preventive prophylaxis
before the procedure (eg in major surgery with risk of bleeding, intravenous infusion lines
installed for preparation in case of shock, also for ease of administration) Prophylactic measures
in patients unstable, such as the risk of dehydration (lack of fluids) and shock (life threatening),
before the blood vessels collapse (not palpable), so that infusion lines can not be installed. To
reduce patient discomfort by reducing need with intramuscular injection.
