• Sannidhi Vocational Training Institute opens its doors on Basant Panchimi at Ma

• WRG joined hands with Guild for Service and local partner “Akash Institute” to start
a full-fledged Vocational Training Institute for rural youth
• Guild for Service has generously offered needed class rooms at Ma Dham and WRG
will provide funds for initial capital and operational expenses
• Targeted students are underprivileged rural youth from five villages around Vrindavan
• Institute aims to spread knowledge and skills to rural youth and enable them to live
their lives with dignity and respect
• Institute plans to offer wide range of courses: English, Tutoring for High School Drop
-outs to complete high school, Sales and Marketing, Travel and Tourism, Computers,
Sewing and Tailoring, Beauty and Health and Hygiene
• Minimum of high school is required to enroll except in drop-out coaching classes
• Duration of various courses is between six to twelve months
• To increase visibility and employment opportunities, final exams are to be held in
Delhi
• Institute aims to get accreditation from National Institute of Open Schooling

2. Sadhana Sangham International Vidyalaya, Bangalore

• Sadhana Vidyalaya made a humble beginning in 2005 as a day school for the benefit of
rural children and is located within the holistic living ashram ‘Sadhana Dhama’, 60kms
from Bangalore on Bangalore-Mysore highway.
• It caters to the children in nearby villages and towns of Channapatna and Ramanagaram
• Through modern education, children are empowered to face the challenges of modern life
skillfully. With academic excellence founded upon holistic values, every child will be-
come an integrated harmonious human being
• WRG is supporting ten children from age 6 to 9 years. These children come from rural
backgrounds, and going to school was only a dream for them
• The ten children are getting a well rounded education, free mid-day hot meal and subsi-
dized transportation
• Besides a full education curriculum, they are being taught Yoga, meditation and chanting
in accordance with the school’s holistic approach to life. Their education is enhanced by
a newly added computer lab
3. Each One Teach One Charitable Foundation, Bangalore
• Each One Teach One was started in Mumbai in 1983 and has opened branches since then
in Bangalore and Bhopal
• Bangalore branch provides computer, tailoring, art and teacher training to young needy
and deserving girls
4. Anandra Vocational School, Vasant Kunj, Delhi

• Meet some of the alumni of Anandra project


• Anandra Project had a successful year with 50 students completing their training in either
tailoring and sewing or beauty courses by August 2010
• Graduates of the program are either gainfully employed or self-employed
• Serves villages of Mahrauli, Kishangarh, and Rangpura Pahari around Vasant Kunj
• Regional Endeavor for the Advancement of the Disabled (READ) and Sewa Bharati run
Anandra School
• It gives to daughters of housemaids and menial workers opportunity to live life of dignity
and financial independence
• Both programs are structured with course syllabus, expectations and rewards
• Nominal fee of Rs.50/month is charged to keep students and their families motivated
• Literacy classes are mandatory for all students
• English classes were added in August 2010
5. Sewa Baharti, Paschim Vihar, Delhi
• Sewa Bharati is the largest voluntary organization in Delhi
• It targets economically weaker and socially neglected groups living in slums, shanty-
towns and resettlement colonies
• Their projects range from vocational training for young adults, medical assistance, child
care, educational and extracurricular activities for street children, adult literacy, group
marriages and the like
• WRG supports Sewa Bharati Center in Paschim Vihar, Delhi for 2010 for computer, sew-
ing & tailoring, and beauty classes for girls from area slums
6. Help Educate A Child, Male Mahadeshwara Hills (M M Hills),
Karnataka

• M M Hills forested area consists of 77 hills and is about 200 kilometers
from Bangalore
• Area is inaccessible by roads/railways and is populated by very poor tribal
families with no tradition of education and modern life
• Children from tribal families walk barefoot to school through the forest
• WRG approved funds towards the purchase of shoes for school children
and to hire an additional teacher to lower student – teacher ratio
• Nanda Prasad and her husband have started “Help Educate A Child Founda-
tion” to raise funds locally and internationally to purchase materials for
school uniforms, books, school supplies etc. and support teachers
7. Association of People with Disability, Bangalore (APD)
• Association of People with Disability (APD) is a fifty year old organization
• It was started by H. N. Hema who herself was polio infected in her child-
hood
• APD is a community based rehabilitation organization. It provides equip-
ment like calipers, hearing aids to the needy, corrective surgery, therapeutic
services like speech therapy, parental counseling and training, and employ-
ment in horticulture, public awareness and advocacy for disabled persons
• WRG funds support children’s schooling .
8. MBA Foundation for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Mumbai

• India has over 75 million disabled persons


• MBA foundation is a complete service organization that provides traditional
education, medical care, therapy and intervention, day and life care services,
vocational training and job placements
• A number of creative vocational skills like making floating candles, office en-
velopes, toran and artificial jewelry, baking and chocolate making, tailoring,
detergent making, paper bags and envelope making are offered
• The goal of these programs is to improve hand functioning, attention span, and
learning ability

9. Sandnya Sanwardhan Sanstha (SSS), Nagpur


• Sanstha’s mission is to improve the quality of life of “differently able” children
through special education, vocational training, and rehabilitation
• All round education is offered to mentally challenged children; Sanstha also
provides support and training to parents
• Public awareness meetings are also organized
• During 2009-10, total enrollment was 79 students, of which 42 were severely
and profoundly retarded
• Number of autistic children was 12, students in need of special schooling num-
bered 49, and 30 were enrolled for vocational training and rehabilitation
• Students were managed by a staff of 37 and 5 to 7 volunteers/month
10. Middlesex County College, Woodbridge, NJ

• Meet scholarship recipients and Malti, Rakhi and Rita at the foundation day
• Middlesex County is home to the largest concentration of immigrant population
from the Indian subcontinent
• Roughly 20% of the student population in Middlesex County College is either
recent immigrants or children of immigrant parents from South Asia
• Students earn their associate degree from the College and a large number of
them go on to earn their bachelors degree at Rutgers University
• Since 2008, WRG has awarded each year five scholarships of $1,000
• Scholarship process consists of formal application, a 500 word essay, grades
from the previous semester, and evidence of financial need
• All applications go through a review process
• Middlesex Scholarship Committee: Renu Khinkhabwala, Shashi Dhanda, Rita
Burton and Kusum Ketkar
• Scholarship recipients for 2010-11 are: Shana Arooz, Malabika Bhat-
tacharyya, Lovejit Kaur, Anupama Moramudi and Janaki Patil
11. SOS, Balniketan and Tailoring & Embroidery School, Panchkula

• Meet SOS children and staff


• SOS takes orphaned, destitute and abandoned children and adopts them as part
of their family
• SOS family of dedicated workers nurse infants, educate them, arrange marriages
and help them with jobs
• Tailoring and Embroidery School trains needy, widowed, abused women to be-
come financially self-sufficient
• WRG has been their loyal supporter for many years and adopts 10 orphans and
funds tailoring and embroidery school
13. Parikrma Project

• What drives Parikrma is the need to provide the poorest from the slums of urban India the
ability to access the best opportunities globally, on equal terms
• In addition to excellent academic training, Parikrma nurtures student interest in space, na-
ture, electronics. Technology etc. Recently two students traveled to San Diego to repre-
sent India at a Global Youth Leadership Summit. Many have already been a part of the
Duke University Talent Identification Program
• Parikrma students swept the inter-school athletics meet, winning 5 out of 10 team champi-
onships and several are also playing for the State Football team
• Parikrma’s first batch of students is now in college. Some are in an engineering college,
one in medicine, a few in hotel management and some in vocational trainings
• WRG joined hands in 2008 with Parikrma to fully fund education of thirty children
• Many of these children enjoy art. This class has a few budding sportsmen/sportswomen,
singers and dancers. Chandanraj and Wilson are the best footballers of the class and Go-
kul, Kiran, Shivaraj, Shridhar and Kokela are the upcoming athletes
• WRG adopted class of students is looking forward to smart classroom next year
13. Auxiliary Nurses Training Program, Vrindavan & Najafgarh

• Meet students in class and receiving practical training


• Auxiliary Nurses Training Programs are run by Guild for Service for WRG
• Najafgarh is one of the poor rural communities in Delhi
• Six month long training combines theoretical knowledge and practical training
and is supplemented by training in computers
• 45 students are trained a year at Najafgarh and 25 at Amar Bari, Vrindavan
• Program trainees go to a nearby old age home, “Aye Dham” and other area hos-
pitals for their internship in geriatric care.
• Graduates of the program are gainfully employed, earning between Rs. 3,000
and Rs. 8,500 per month

• Finally end is in sight, diplomas are in hand


• In Vrindavan - birth place of Lord Krishna and ” The City of Widows”,
over 300 widows have been trained and are living a life of dignity
14. Bonds of Love
• WRG has passion and empathy to help those who will be ignored by the society
as small pebbles on the road
• They are widows, abused, down trodden illiterate women and children
• Funding for individual grants and loans was expanded substantially
• Grants were approved to pay for school and college tuitions, computer and air
conditioning training, sewing and beauty courses, and also to start small busi-
ness by handicapped persons
• A paraplegic girl from Udaipur needed small amount of money to open her gro-
cery store
• A 35 year old widow whose husband was murdered needed money to pay for
computer training course in Akola
• Applications for assistance came from Lucknow, Jaipur, Akola, Udaipur, Ban-
galore, Karnal
• Grants assisted widows, domestic workers and laborers to give life of dignity
and independence to their children
