After the probationary period of service, the notice period is extended to three months.
In the case of termination by the Company, and at the Company's discretion, payment for
the notice period may be made in lieu.
3.0 RETIREMENT
It is a condition of employment that all Flight Crew attend and successfully complete such
training courses as may be required by the Company. Courses are generally conducted in
Dubai, however, should there be a requirement to use third party facilities, accommodation
and living expenses whilst off-station will be provided.
All Flight Crew will be bonded for a period of three years. The bond for First Officers is
US$36,000.
The bond for Direct Entry Captains will be dependent on course eligibility and will either be
US $12,000 or US$36,000.

Emirates recognize the career progression aspirations of our Pilots. Transfers between aircraft
fleets will be offered whenever possible, at the discretion of Fleet Management and in
accordance with company policy.
The Group Profit Share Scheme is based upon the financial results of the Emirates Group.
The scheme rules are determined at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors of the Group
and may be amended, varied or suspended from year to year as appropriate.
Under the scheme rules, an employee who works for the entire financial year, from 1 st April
to 31st March, will be eligible for profit share payment [if any], applicable to that year.
If you join after 1st April and before 30th September, you will be entitled to a prorated
amount for each calendar month of service. Those who join after 30th September will not be
entitled to enter the profit share scheme until the following year.
The Company has established a Provident Scheme which is set up under a Trust governed by
Isle of Man Law and which is administered by the Trustees in accordance with the Rules of
the Scheme.
However, in accordance with the UAE Labour Law, the guaranteed minimum payment in
respect of Company contributions is calculated on the basis of 21 days final basic pay per
year of service for each of the first five years of service and 30 days final basic pay per year
of service thereafter.
Higher of either:
After completion of the probationary period of service, and subject to the provision of
acceptable medical certificates, full basic salary will be paid for up to 52 weeks of sick
absence. If medically certified to work for shorter hours or on non flying duties, you will be
required to do so. However, you will be paid full basic salary.
If you are absent from work due to sickness/ an accident, you must not leave the UAE unless
travel is authorised by your Departmental Head in liaison with Senior Vice President Medical
Services.
You will be covered under a Medical Insurance Scheme, which provides 24 hour worldwide
cover. The policy also provides life and accident insurance benefits.
The premium for compulsory family cover [spouse and up to three dependent children
residing in Dubai] is paid by the employee. Additional children will be insured at a marginally
higher premium.
In Dubai, you and your entitled family members will be registered with the Company Medical
Clinic, which provides primary medical and dental care and where necessary will arrange, at
Company expense, referral to external medical specialists.
The Medical Insurance Scheme does not cover existing ailments. There is a two year
waiting period for non-urgent minor surgery and a six month waiting period for
pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions from the time the female employee or
spouse joins the scheme.
Should you currently have private medical coverage for yourself and/or your family it is
strongly recommended that you do not cancel this medical cover prior to joining the
Emirates Group, particularly if you or your family have pre-existing medical conditions. It is
also strongly recommended that you do not cancel any existing medical insurance cover for
yourself and family until you have satisfactorily completed your 6 month probationary period.
Eligibility for Group Dental Cover is determined only after clinical assessment is carried out at
the Emirates Dental Clinic.
The Company insures all Flight Crew as listed below, against permanent loss of licence arising
from accident or sickness:
13.0 ACCOMMODATION
If First Officers are upgraded to Captains, then they will also be entitled to apply for villa
accommodation, regardless of marital or family status.
The Company pays for telephone installation in Company accommodation and provides a
telephone allowance towards the cost of telephone rental charges, of AED 100 per month for
First Officers and AED 200 per month for Captains. The employee pays all call charges.
Upon signing the contract of employment, you will be required to advise which
accommodation option you wish to take.
Under this option, the employee will be allocated Company provided accommodation, with
Company provided furniture, appliances and furnishings, which are given to the employee.
The Company will contribute towards the charges for cooking gas, electricity and water
consumption, for normal living purposes to the value of AED 21,600 per annum.
The employee will also receive a Starter Pack, which consists of essential linen, tableware
and kitchenware to enable them to live in the new accommodation upon arrival. A list
detailing the items in the Starter pack will be available on the joining portal once you receive
your Contract of Employment. A Starter Pack Allowance of AED 3,300 is also provided, to
enable the purchase of any additional household items required. This is paid in the first week
after joining the Company.
The costs of furnishing the accommodation unit, Starter Pack and the Starter Pack Allowance
will be amortised in equal monthly amounts over a period of 5 years. (N.B. actual cost of the
furnishing varies according to the size of the accommodation). If an employee leaves the
Company before the value of the furnishings and allowance have been fully amortised, the
amount to be repaid will be calculated on a pro-rata daily basis and the amount due will be
debited to the employee’s end of service benefit. The Company does not accept the return of
items in lieu of a cash repayment.
Under this option, the employee will receive an annual Refurbishment allowance of AED 1500
for a First Officer and AED 2000 for a Captain, commencing 12 months after moving into his
accommodation.
The Company will not be responsible for the maintenance of the employee’s furniture,
furnishings or appliances; neither will the Company provide pest control or cleaning services
in furnished or unfurnished Company Accommodation options.
Under this option, the employee will be allocated unfurnished Company accommodation and
will receive a ‘once only’ Furnishing Allowance of AED 30,000 with which to furnish and equip
the accommodation.
The Company accommodation provided will be an ‘empty shell’, without floor coverings,
furniture, curtains, appliances etc. The Company provides temporary accommodation for one
week to employees who take this option. There will be no further extensions to this.
Thereafter, employees choosing to take unfurnished Company accommodation must make
and pay for temporary accommodation arrangements.
The Furnishing Allowance of AED 30,000 is based on the average cost to furnish an
accommodation unit to Company standards and includes the cost of the Starter Pack and
Starter Pack allowance.
A Starter Pack [basic linen, kitchenware, tableware] can be provided on request and the cost
of the pack [between AED 860-AED 1000], will be deducted from the Furnishing Allowance
payment.
The Furnishing Allowance given to an employee is written off in equal monthly amounts over
5 years. When an employee receives the Allowance he/ she will be required to sign an
undertaking to repay the Company the unamortised portion of the allowance should he/ she
leave the Company before the allowance has been fully amortised.
The Company will contribute towards the charges for the utilities [cooking gas, electricity and
water charges] consumed to the value of AED 21,600 per annum and will pay for the
installation of a telephone.
The employee will also receive an annual Refurbishment Allowance commencing twelve
months after moving into the accommodation.
The employee will also receive a once only advance allowance of AED 30,000 to furnish his
accommodation. No other allowances are payable. There is no entitlement to the Annual
Refurbishment Allowance. Installation of a telephone line and arrangements for electricity
connection are at the employee’s expense. Bills for water, gas, electricity consumption and
applicable municipality charges, will also be paid by the employee.
The employee will initially be provided with up to 3 months temporary company
accommodation which will enable time to explore renting or purchasing options. Employees in
Company accommodation who wish to apply for the Housing Allowance must apply in writing
to the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Department 3 months in advance. On receipt of
the application, the employee will be advised if and when the Housing Allowance can be
released.
The Furnishing Allowance given to an employee is written off in equal monthly amounts over
5 years. When an employee receives this amount, he/ she will be required to sign an
undertaking to repay the Company the unamortised portion of the allowance should he leave
the employment of the Company before the allowance has been fully amortised.
An employee who opts to take the Housing Allowance option cannot at any time later change
to Company accommodation.
There is no option to change the Company accommodation which has been assigned to you.

time education at either a primary or secondary school- not nursery level).
The maximum rates of Education Support Allowance per child are up to:
Confirmed school places can be difficult to obtain and most schools have waiting lists.

AED 500 each child. We recommend that due to the high demand for school places, you
register your child with at least two or three different schools, however additional registration
will be at the employee’s expense. A one off payment of AED 2,000 for admission fees will also
be reimbursed.
The Education Support allowance may also be applied against school fees for children who are

The Company provides an Exchange Rate Protection scheme [ERP] whereby 50% of the basic
salary is protected against exchange rate fluctuations between the UAE Dirham and their
currency classification. The Company uses a ‘Threshold Protection Exchange Rate’ which is
the statistical average exchange rate for the last five years; the ‘Threshold Protection Rate’ is
set annually on 1st January.
Payment, if applicable, will be made to a maximum ceiling of 15% above the threshold
protection rate. Your currency classification is related to your nationality, passport(s) held,
place of domicile etc and is linked to the Annual Leave Destination; it may not be changed
during employment.
You are eligible for 42 calendar days annual leave [including public holidays] credited at 3.5
days per month. Annual Leave cannot normally be taken until the end of six months, i.e.
upon completion of the probationary period. Leave shall be taken in accordance with the
leave bidding / roster system established by the Company.
The Annual Leave Destination [ALD] is set solely at the discretion of the company and is
based on a number of factors, including nationality, permanent address, residency rights and
taxation status, employment history and point of recruitment.
The Annual Leave Ticket is only issued to the Annual Leave destination for the first three
years of service, thereafter the ALT may be used for any destination on the Emirates route

the age of 23. Education Leave tickets can be issued prior to the completion of six months

the purchase of a car. The car loan is recovered from the monthly salary in equal amounts
over a period of 4 years.
All crew members have a minimum of 7 days off in any consecutive 28 days and an average

These figures will be prorated in relation to periods of leave.
20.0 TRANSPORT

service will not be provided and no allowance will be paid in lieu. The Company does not
provide recreational transport.
Stopover Allowances apply at all layover locations, paid in local currency. Details of these will
be provided by Flight Operations, outlining the current rates and locations.
