1. What is IP Curriculum? copy the link for your answer.

IPEd Curriculum Framework provides guidance to schools and other education programs as they engage
with indigenous communities in localizing, indigenizing, and enhancing the K to 12 Curriculum on their
respective educational and social contexts in partnership with the IP community.

The objective of the curriculum is to improve communication skills, problem solving and critical thinking
abilities and develop a strong sense of community for the IPs. “The curriculum was specifically-written to
be culture-sensitive with the end-view of helping them become functionally literate and contributors to
our society,” Education Secretary Luistro stated.

The IP Curriculum is supported by learning resources that are written in mother tongue. Presently,
thirteen (13) of the basic literacy level materials are written in eight (8) mother tongue and are being
used in selected Community Learning Centers (CLC).

2. How is Mother Tongue Based Multilingual Education (MTBMLT) related to IP Curriculum?

MTB-MLE refers to “first-language-first” education that is, schooling which begins in the mother tongue
and transitions to additional languages particularly Filipino and English. It is meant to address the high
functional illiteracy of Filipinos where language plays a significant factor

The IP Curriculum is supported by learning resources that are written in mother tongue. Presently,
thirteen (13) of the basic literacy level materials are written in eight (8) mother tongue and are being
used in selected Community Learning Centers. So these two are related because they are both focusing
in mother tongue to preserved our own benefits.
3.Why is it important to preserve indigenous languages?

Language is an important part of any society, because it enables people to communicate and express
themselves. It is important to preserve so that we will not be able to forget where we came from. As a
Filipino we should be proud in our own languages and even though now a days we influenced by the
other countries. We should not let our self to praise their culture or languages instead we should have a
strong foundation to build and continue our legacy to be a proud Filipino.

4. How does indigenous language preserve the culture of a particular country or place.

According to Martin in Latrobe.educ.com ,each language is associated with an area of land and has a
deep spiritual significance, and it is through their own languages that Indigenous nations maintain their
connection with their ancestors, land and law.

Today most of the Filipinos forget the languages that we have and many are risk of being lost as Elder
pass on.
There’s a pressing need to raise awareness in communities and ‘shine the spotlight’ on programs that
revitalise and record Indigenous languages and ensure they are passed on to the next generation before
it is too late.
5. What are the issues and challenges in cultivating indigenous languages in the Philippines as
mentioned by Dr. Ricardo Nolasco?

Sir Ricardo Nolasco talked about his research entitled “SAVING INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES, SAVING
PHILIPPINE EDUCATION. MTB-MLE policy develops L1 profiency among learners, adds the two
L2( Filipino and English) and promotes the learners L1 and L2s throughout basic and higher education. It
is therefore an additive L1/L2 SYSTEM, NOT A SUBTRACTIVE L2 to L2 system
6. In your own understanding, what do you think are the factors that affect the poor learning style,
ability and  comprehension of the students in the Philippines?

 Lack of support from the government  Lack of seminar in teaching reading

 Lack of support from external  Lack of appropriate strategies and
stakeholders approaches to foster love for reading
 Non-functional learning resource center  Pupils’ poor/limited vocabulary
(LRC)  Pupils poor grammar and spelling
 No follow-ups at home  Low comprehension level
 Less motivation by siblings to study  Selection contain unfamiliar words
 Low educational background of parents  Pupils are not immersed to English
 Absence of reading materials at home  Nutritional Status
 Lack of catchy reading materials  Pupils are not motivated to read

7. As PE majors and future teachers someday, how can you help promote the Indigenous People
Languages of the Philippines? Give at least 2 personal example as a future teacher someday.

As a future teacher I can help to promote the indigenous people languages of the Philippines by:

1.I will use my voice to raise awareness and educate my students to be proud of what we have and how
important our language is. In that way it will lessen the risk of the people who influence by the other
country.

2. We all know that we have lots of languages here in the Philippines. I will study different languages so
that I can share my knowledge to my students. Instead they are imitating the languages of the other
country and study strategies in order for them to love our own language.
