https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GbxFIVQv8c

After watching the link, answer the following processing questions with your group mates:

a. What situation was presented in the video?

The story is all about Libby, a profoundly deaf four-year-old girl, who lives a quiet life until a
social worker named Joanne educates her how to communicate through sign dialect/sign
language.
b. How did seeing the events unfold in the video make you feel?
Deafness is not a learning difficulty. The short film shows that not just those people with
disabilities need to learn but also those without. As an individual, we need to exert some efforts
to learn new things. We need to stand not only for ourselves but also for others. Also, give each
other an equal opportunity.

c. Who are the different characters in the video?

Rachel Shenton as Joanne, a social worker.

Maisie Sly as Libby, a profoundly deaf four-year-old girl.
Rachel Fielding as Sue.
Philip York as Paul.
Anna Barry as Nancy.
Sam Rees as Seb.
Annie Cusselle as Pip.

d. Choose one of the characters in the video. How would you act when facing the same
situation?
Sue she’s Libby’s mother. As Libby’s mother I am willing to learn sign language for my child. I
will give Libby the time, attention, and support that she needs.
e. What features of an advocacy campaign are evident in the video?
Spirit of volunteerism in character of Joanne a social worker that educates Libby how to
communicate through sign dialect/sign language.
f. What type of language was used in the short film? Did you notice if the sentences were
long or short? Were sentence fragments used? Was the language formal or informal, or
was there a mixture of both?
Sign language was used. It uses hand gestures and movements, body language and facial
expressions to communicate. Sign languages do not have a traditional or formal written form.
g. Is the language used appropriate? Why do you say that?
Sign languages utilize the visual-manual methodology to communicate. Sign languages don’t
have a conventional or formal composed frame but it is appropriate to use.
h. What advocacy is undertaken by the short film? Did it accomplish its goal?
Fight for sign language to be recognized in every school across the globe. Yes, the short film
accomplished its goal to portray the situation of those deaf people. It is an eye opener for us to
realize the things that we need to consider for others.
