Theoretical Framework

The study of Wayne Ansell entitled Storybook on computer has gained interest
for the researcher for the reason that their study involves an electronic Storybook with
voice analysis wherein the user can interact with the system. In their study all children
can benefit from having a story books read aloud to them, it is stimulating and fun,
encourages the use of imagination, and provides information and knowledge. Listening
to stories is powerful emergent literacy activity which promotes the development of
beginning language and interactive communication, and provides a platform of acquiring
reading and writing skills. In the study also, stories read aloud by the computer,
particularly those incorporating recently improve technologies in voice and sound and a
child who is visually impaired can listen to the story.
The researchers find their study very much interesting that some way, they will
enhance the capability of their study by creating a Mother Ignacia E-Storybook with
voice analysis, this means, that when showing the whole story there is an audio voice
reading the story while the user can read and listen to the story book also. After the
story there are five questions for the users to answer for their learning skills. In that way,
it’s the process wherein the can interact with the system through their voice. The system
will evaluate and analyze the voice frequency if the users answer measures a wave that
meets the qualification criteria for consistency. By the use of this E-Storybook, the study
will be at the most help for schools especially St. Mary’s College as their target area.
From the traditional Mother Ignacia story in the school handbook it will be now called as
Mother Ignacia E-Storybook with voice analysis.

Review of Related Literature and Studies

The purpose of this study is to create an electronic storybook with the life story of
Mother Ignacia that could give information to the Marian Community member,
considering the possibility if more training way with the aid of technology. This chapter
present the review of related research concerning the proposed system that must be
created and enhanced this chapter ends with the summary of the literature review.
As part of the process of creating an electronic storybook, the group anchor its
knowledge from the previous survey and observation concerning on the learning skills
of the teacher and students of Marian Community towards Mother Ignacia and how to
connect it with voice analysis. The group search for many possible related studies to
help in creating the proposed system.

The Effects of Electronic Books Designed for Children in Education

(Michelle Chau, FIS2309) Electronic books (or e-books) can be defined as any
group of text in a digital format that is to be read and displayed on a computer screen.
This emerging technology has opened the possibility for a large range of new learning
experiences for students because of its advantages over traditional printed textbooks.
Electronic books often contain rich multimedia features that cannot be found in
textbooks. These frequently include recordings of the text read-aloud, lively animations,
music, video and various sound effects. Many companies are now producing more
electronic textbooks for use in classrooms as researchers believe that they can prove to
be excellent supplementary material for teachers, as well as being quite effective in
early literacy development, reading comprehension and language development for
young children (De Jong, 2004; Grant, 2004; Grimshaw, 2007; Higgins, 1999; Korat,
2008; Lewin, 2000; Maynard, 2005). This paper highlights the successes of children’s
interactions with electronic books in their learning environments.

Voice Stress Analysis

(Lippold, O., Redfearn, Vuco, 1957) The purpose of a VSA examination is to

determine the truthfulness of responses made by an examinee regarding the subject
under investigation. Determinations are made by analyzing and scoring the voice-grams
produced by the examinee. Traditional analysis of voice grams was achieved by
allocating "percentages of stress" ( % ) according to the patterns so produced.
High levels of (deceptive) stress indicate that the examinee is deceptive as is the case
with polygraph. In respect of VSA, squared voice grams indicate higher stress, whilst
‘waveform’ or ‘domed’ signatures indicate less stress. Questions may be posed to elicit
simple "yes" or "no" answers, but can be posed to produce a narrative response.
Questions are formulated for each individual being examined to compare situational
stress signatures with Control Question and Relevant Question signatures, in order to
identify (deceptive) 'stress signatures'. Voice Stress Analysis (VSA) is a lie
detection technology- and uniquely deployed as such- which is newer than the
polygraph, but still controversial. VSA technology records psychophysiological stress
responses that are present in human voice, when a person suffers psychological
stress in response to a stimulus (question) and where the consequences of lying may
be dire for the subject being 'tested'.

CD- ROM storybook Read to Me Mode

(Anderson, Hiebert, Scott, Wilkinson, 1985; Homey, Anderson-Inman, 1999;

Trelease, 2006) CD- ROM storybook is a multimedia method in which students can look
and listen to stories read aloud. CD-ROM storybooks have some of the basic
characteristics as read-alouds. CD-ROM storybooks give students the opportunity to
listen to a story individually and repeatedly with minimal teacher assistance.
While students are interacting with CD-ROM storybooks in the 'Read to me'
mode, they are simultaneously listening and viewing. Thus, students are more likely to
retain the information learned while using CD-ROM storybooks (Perzylo, 1993). Prior to
the development of CD-ROM storybooks, research studies attempted to investigate how
technology assisted students in their literacy development.
This exposure facilitates and potentially increases students listening and
speaking vocabulary. . In the 'Living Books' CD-ROM storybooks, the title and the entire
story of the book are displayed and read aloud by the computer narrator. As the
computer narrator reads the story, the words are highlighted from left to right with return
sweep to the next line of text (Clay, 1991).

Voice Analysis

(Dr. Alfred Tomatis) Voice Analysis is the core of what we do at BioWaves. It

involves using a computer to analyze the recording of a person's voice to see the
frequency patterns that exist. In a similar way, the voice, which we analyze with a
computer, is a great indicator of vitality. The voice is one of the most powerful
avenues of human expression and as such, provides a very useful analog for the
systems of the body. According to the author, the voice is not able to reproduce
what the ear cannot hear. Perhaps the ear cannot hear what the brain cannot
generate. There is evidence that the brain, in addition to being a master chemist, is
a very complex tone generator and commands the systems of the body through
frequency.
The brain produces waveform patterns that can be measured with a variety of
instruments. The voice also produces a waveform pattern that contains a great deal
of frequency information that seems to relate to the physical and emotional health
and balance of the speaker. Since every person's voice is unique, the resulting
frequency voice analysis map when recorded and analyzed with The Sound
Assistant software may show indications of physical and/or emotional issues at the
time of the recording.
Russian ATM uses voice analysis

(Voice J., 2004) Credit card applications via automated teller are all the rage
abroad these days. That’s why Russia’s Sberbank is using Speech Technology Center’s
voice recognition system its new ATM to tell when you fudge your financials to get
approved. Like a polygraph, the technology senses involuntary stress cues to ferret out
fib-filled statements only instead of using wide sensors, it listens to your angst-ridden
voice. Designed using samples from Russian police interrogation recordings where
subjects were found to be lying, the system is able to detect the changes in speech
patterns when a person isn’t telling the truth.

Voice Field Measurements

(Leiska M.) There are various methods to evaluate voice parameters. Original
software was used to assess the voice quality by the staff of AUDIO-Fon centr Brno,
Czech Republic. A group of hereditary deaf persons was examined. Deaf persons have
all of the biological conditions to make voice except for the possibility of acoustic
feedback. They examined the voices of 35 persons with hereditary profound hearing
impairments, and they compared voice parameters with the voice of intact persons. To
measure they used special software called voice field measurements (VFMs). The
program graphically records voice frequency and intensity. VFM is an objective method
that enables the assessment of basic physical voice characteristics. It is suitable for the
examination of both intact and disturbed voice. The voice of the deaf has a higher basic
voice frequency in men as well as in women. Hearing influences both the voice
development and speech production. The voice of persons with hearing impairments
has a higher basic voice frequency regardless of their sex.
Summary:

The researchers were then able to gather the ideas and facts on the ideas
mentioned above. The studies give the researchers enlightenment on the field of their
project.
It gives information on how to make the students handbook become a Mother
Ignacia electronic with voice analysis.

The Effects of Electronic Books Designed for Children in Education is the study
that give the researcher’s ideas on how create the flow of the electronic storybook. The
ideas gathered in this study performed a major role on how to start the project.
Voice Stress Analysis enables to determine the truthfulness of the response of
the examinee under investigation. It gives idea to the researcher on how to evaluate
and analyze the voice frequency the users answer in the questions after listening to the
story.
Several algorithms and ways were used to analyze the voice frequency of the
users answer if it meets the qualification criteria of consistency and the frequency range
of the system for the implementation of the interactive electronic storybook. When the
voice frequency of the user will match with that in the system, the result will be correct.
Otherwise, if not, the result will be wrong. This study is related to the group research
because vice stress analysis is the main objective to enable to create an electronic
storybook with voice analysis.
