Course Description: Nursing Care of Clients w/ Life Threatening Conditions, Acutely Ill/
Multi-Organ Problems, High Acuity and Emergency Situations (Acute &
Chronic) CL
Date and Time : MTW– 7:00am – 12:00pm; 12:30pm – 2:30pm

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the school year, the students will have acquired:
a. Holistic understanding of man as bio-psycho-social-cultural being focused on the concept of health,
common stresses of life; political history and institution such as family, health care system and
finally the nursing profession.
b. Advance skills in the use of the nursing process as basis of health care delivery.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the school year, the student will be able to:
1. Identify factor contributing to the health and well-being of the individual, family and community;
2. Describe the health care delivery system;
3. Demonstrate ethics/moral values in daily living and beginning nursing activities;
4. Recognize the nursing heritage as well as his own role as a prospective member of the nursing
profession;
5. Demonstrate advance skills in the use of the nursing process;
6. Show understanding of legal responsibilities in relation to the practice of nursing;
7. Acquire understanding of man, as bio-psycho-social-cultural being;
8. Understand the cultural and socio-economic history of the Philippines in relation to other countries;
9. Acquire knowledge of the relationship between the epidemiological factors as they affect man.
10. Observe and demonstrate the core values of nursing profession such as love of God, country and
people, caring and the bioethical principle in the care of clients who went through the process of
surgery
11. Identify health parameters at multiple levels for total client management and to identify concerns
and needs.
12. Testing knowledge on accurate concepts about vital signs reading such as blood pressure,
temperature, pulse rate, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation of the patient
13. Record and document vital signs reading on what to expect with the situation.
14. Identify and monitor serious, life threatening abnormalities or critical assessment findings that
require immediate attention and intervention on the given situation
15. Measure and monitor the client’s fluid intake and output accurately at a given hour.
16. Testing knowledge on how to apply the skills in administering oral and parenteral medications
aseptically in the given situation.

1. Observance of the roles and responsibilities of the nurse


2. Observe characteristics of therapeutic relationships and communication

❖ Sputum exam
7. Assist with the procedure involving maintaining proper body mechanics
❖ Assisting the patient out of bed

❖ Moving the patient up in bed
❖ Moving the patient from the bed to a stretcher
8. Demonstrate and institute measures promoting proper body hygiene
❖ Complete bed bath with shampooing
❖ Tepid sponge bath
❖ Back massage/rub
9. Perform vital signs monitoring and charting in hospital form
❖ Temperature (axillary, oral, rectal)
❖ Pulse rate
❖ Respiratory rate
❖ Cardiac rate
❖ Blood pressure
10. Regulation of IVF, changing of IVFs with proper documentation.
11. Monitoring of Input and Output of patients.
12. Perform bedmaking
❖ Unoccupied and occupied bed

❖ Interview

14. Assess health status utilizing different assessment tool;
❖ IPPA (Inspection, Palpation, Percussion, Auscultation)

16. Computation and administration of medications observing the rights of drug administration to both
adult and pediatric clientele
17. Perform catheterization to both male and female clientele observing rights of clients to privacy and
confidentiality

20. Show advance skills in carrying out Doctor’s orders.
