GENERAL PHYSICS 1
LONG TEST-MODULE 1-WEEK 1
VI. ANALYSIS
1. Explain the importance of having a standard in measurement.
Having and using standard measurement is to ensure that testing equipment stays within
an acceptable range of accuracy.
2. What’s the advantage(s) of writing quantities in scientific notation?
The advantage of writing quantities in scientific notation is it is easier to write especially
when the complete number is too large it is also easier with reduced possibility of error.
3. Is there a difference in the accuracy of measurements of the reading if the units used vary?
Why?
Accuracy and precision come into play. In other words, accuracy describes the difference
between the measurement and the part's actual value, while precision describes the
variation you see when you measure the same part repeatedly with the same device.
4. Can measurements be accurate but not precise? Justify your answer by citing a specific
example.
You can also be accurate but imprecise. For example, if on average, your measurements
for a given substance are close to the known value, but the measurements are far from
each other, then you have accuracy without precision.
