d. Example
Volcanic Eruptions (tittle)
General classification
Volcanic eruptions happen when lava and gas are discharged from a volcanic vent.
The most common consequences of this are population movements as large numbers of
people are often forced to flee the moving lava flow. Volcanic eruptions often cause
temporary food shortages and volcanic ash landslides called Lahar. The most dangerous type
of volcanic eruption is referred to as a 'glowing avalanche'. This is when freshly erupted
magma forms hot pyroclastic flow which have temperatures of up to 1,200 degrees. The
pyroclastic flow is formed from rock fragments following a volcanic explosion , the flow
surges down the flanks of the volcano at speeds of up to several hundred kilometres per hour,
to distances often up to 10km and occasionally as far as 40 km from the original disaster site.
Description
The International Federation response adjusts to meet the needs of each specific
circumstance. As population movement is often a consequence, the provision of safe areas,
shelter, water, food and health supplies are primordial. In general response prioritizes
temporary shelter materials; safe water and basic sanitation; food supplies; and the short term
provision of basic health services and supplies.

e. Task
Remote sensing is the acquisition of information about an object or phenomenon,
without making physical contact with the object. In modern usage, the term generally refers to
the use of aerial sensor technology to detect and classify objects on Earth (both on the surface,
and in the atmosphere and ocean) by means of propagated signals (e.g. electromagnetic
radiation emitted from aircraft or satellites).
There are two main types or remote sensing: passive remote sensing and active
remote sensing. Passive sensors detect natural radiation that is emitted or reflected by the
objects or surrounding area being observed. Reflected sunlight is the most common source of
radiation measured by passive censors. Examples of passive remote sensors include film
photography, infra-red, charge-coupled devices, and radiometers. Active collection, on the
other hand, emits energy in order to scan objects and areas whereupon a sensor then detects
and measures the radiation that is reflected or backscattered from the target. RADAR and
LIDAR are examples of active remote sensing where the time delay between emission and
return is measured, stabilizing the location, height, speed and direction of an object.

Question !
1. What is the text about?
2.From the text we know that remote sensing?
3.What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
4. what is RADAR and LIDAR ?

Gold is a precious metal. Gold is used as ornaments or as money. Gold is found in many
places, but in a small supply. It is often found on the surface of the earth. Since gold is a heavy
substance, it is sometimes found loose on bottom of rivers. The gold is found together with sand
and rocks, and must be separated from them. It is simple to search for this type of gold. It is not
usually necessary to drill for gold, but when a layer of gold is located deep below the surface of
the earth, it is possible to drill a hole into the ground. Engineers have developed modern process
for removing gold from rocks. Since gold is not very hard, it is sometimes melted and added to
other substances for making rings, coins, and art objects. It will be priced forever because it is
beautiful, rare, and useful.

D. EXAMPLE
Controlling Children Using Computer

Computer and internet are useful as well as powerful. Information about health and safe usage
of computer and Internet, especially for children, should be owned by each family. Computer
connected to internet is powerful way to socialize with others. It can be good but also bad effect.
Recently we hear a lot of children get the advantage of social networking sites but we often see the
news about the disadvantage of it for children. Healthy and safety of computer and Internet usage
should continue to be campaigned.

The role of parent in assisting and directing children in using computer is very necessary.
Installation of software monitor such as key logger which has function to watch and note all
activities relating to keyboard usage is helpful but not enough to protect children from potential
harms. Children tend to hide what they have done in front of the computer to their parent. They see
that all of they have done are their privacy and no one may know.

We can not prevent children from using computer because it is multifunctional. However,
many parents worry about what their kids do in front of the computer; whether they are doing
homework or even just playing games. Or spending all time to surf internet which is the materials
do not fit with his age. There is a tendency, especially teenagers, want to become acquainted with
many strangers out side. The lack parental supervision of children’s activities is likely to pose a
potential danger to them. So parental monitor against the use of computers needs to be done from
time to time.

E. TASK
Reading is Important
I personally think that reading is a very important activity in our life. Why do I say so? Firstly, by
reading we can get a lot of knowledge about many things in the world such as Science, technology.
Sports, arts, culture, etc written in either books, magazine, newspaper, etc.
Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and information about something happening in any
parts of the world which can we see directly.
Another reason, reading can give us pleasure too. When we are tired, we read books, newspaper or
magazine on the entertainment coloumn such as comedy, short story, quiz, etC. To make us
relaxeD.
The last, reading can also take us to other parts of the worlD. By reading a book about Irian Jaya
we may feel we’re really sitting in the jungles not at home in our rooms.
From the facts above, it’s obvious that everyone needs to read to get knowledge, information and
also entertainment. Or in summary we can say reading is truly important in our lifE.
