THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT

EXT. ROTHERFEILD SMOKING AREA- LATE AFTERNOON

ALYSSIA slowly strolls through campus after a slow but easy

day. Alyssia is dressed in a bright coloured crop top and some
jogging bottoms with a dark coloured zip up hoodie tied around
her waist. She has a small smile stretching through her face
looking somewhat content at the day she’s had. The sky is
bright, and the air is cold. The Autumn leaves scattered on
the floor. THE CAMERA TRACKS HER FROM THE FRONT, THEN A 180
ARC AROUND HER SO WE NOW SEE EVERYTHING OVER HER SHOULDER. As
Alyssia approaches the back of the campus she notices two
groups sitting on either side of the pathway.

On one side, a group of kids that are rude and arrogant and
have no respect for the people or the environment that
surrounds them.

THE CAMERA PANS FROM THE SMOKING AREA TO THE BENCH, THEN BACK
TO THE SMOKING AREA, she looks between the two a few times and
decides that she would rather hangout with the “cooler” more
dangerous group.

THE CAMERA TRUCKS WITH HER as she walks over and they all
smile but say nothing, when she sits down THE CAMERA MOVES TO
CENRALISED FRAMING and not a word is spoken. Her heart begins
to race, she took a risk sitting with people she’s not
particularly close with. Alyssia puts her bag down beside and
turns slowly, as if she’s nervous to interact but does anyway.
While Alyssia is facing away from her bag someone, THE CAMERA
PANS FROM ALYSSIA’S CONVERSATION TO A GIRL WHO SHE’S TURNED
AWAY FROM, THEN TILTS FROM THAT GIRL’S FACE TO HER HANDS, as
she slowly reaches in and takes Alyssia’s purse and her phone.
CAMERA CUTS TO SHOW ALYSSIA AND HER FRIEND HAVING A
CONVERSTAION.

CAMERA PANS TO SHOW Alyssia’s friend leaving THEN PANS BACK TO

ALLLYSIA and she is now sat awkwardly, no one is really paying
attention to her. As everyone starts to leave, she is left
alone… forgotten. She sees that the other people in the area,
the nice people she’s friends with are gone. She visibly sighs
in sadness and walks away.

HENLEY TRAIN STATION – LATER – EARLY EVENING

OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT as Alyssia walks into the station,

hunched and troubled. CAMERA CUTS TO CENTRALISED FRAMING as
She drops onto the chair in the station, fed up with being
invisible. She sits for a moment staring into space,
emotionlessly. CAMERA PANS FROM ALYSSIA TO THE TRAIN She is
pulled from her thoughts when the chime of an incoming train
echoes through the station.
 ANNOUNCER
(train station CHIME)
The five fifty-seven train to London
Marylebone is coming into platform
One.
The five fifty-seven train to London Marylebone.

Alyssia looks around a couple of times THE CAMERA TILTS

DOWNWARDS TO SHOW HER LOOKING THROUGH HER BAG, she then
reaches for her bag to get her ticket. CAMERA TILTS UP TO HER
FACE, CLOSE-UP OF HER FACIAL EXPRESSION, Alyssia rummages
around for a moment before looking up in both disbelief and
shock. Her heartbeat quickens and her stomach turns. She can’t
have lost them as she is responsible enough to keep them in a
side pocket. Which means her belongings were stolen.

*CAMERA DOLLY ZOOMS* Alyssia panics, she has no way to get

home, no phone to call for help. Her worried state is causing
her normal level-headed thinking to completely dissipate into
a wave of blind panic.

STARTS WITH MID-SHOT OF ALYSSIA’S FACE AS SHE REALISES HER

THINGS ARE GONE, CAMERA ARCS 180 ROUND ALYSSIA as she sees a
woman rushing by to board the train, CUTS TO SHOT OVER
ALYSSIA’S SHOULDER as she tries to get her attention but is
completely ignored. Alyssia stands shocked for a moment she
stands completely dumbfounded by the woman’s arrogance.

Alyssia has no idea what to do now and how to get home. Her
heart rate increases, and her body stiffens as she comes to
the realisation that she is stuck without a way home. CLOSE
UP OF ALYSSIA’S LEGS AS THEY TOUCH THE SEAT Alyssia, in a daze
of panic backs up until she can feel the cold metal of the
seat against the back of her legs, MID SHOT as she then lowers
herself back into the chair. Too panicked to have an emotional
response she sits emotionless as tears start to form in her
eyes.

CLOSE UP OF HER LEG SHAKING, SUDDENLY HER LEG STOPS SHAKING

AND THE CAMERA TILTS UPWARDS TO HER FACE, THEN PANS TO THE
FIGURE AND BACK TO ALYSSIA. Alyssia is brought out of her
thoughts as she is made aware of a presence, a presence she
doesn’t like. Looking around she notices a figure. Tall,
strong looking. Wearing baggy dark clothes, the gender is
unrecognisable.

EXT. ALLEYWAY OUTSIDE TRAIN STATION – EARLY EVENING

MID SHOT as she lifts herself from the seat and desperately
hurries from the train station and finds an alley off the
side. TRACKING FROM THE FRONT WITH THE FIGURE SEEN IN THE
DISTANCE OVER HER SHOULDER Alyssia scurries down the alley
with the fear of being followed. After a few seconds she turns
while walking to see the figure behind her but slightly in the
distance. The Figure is stood still almost like he’s already
caught her. Alyssia keeps moving, too scared to look back
again.

Alyssia slows CLOSE UP OF HER FACE SO THAT FIGURE ISN’T IN

SHOT ANYMORE, she can’t hear paired footsteps anymore, she
doesn’t dare to turn around though. Alyssia takes a deep
breath and lets out the air slowly, just as she finishes
releasing the breath the two arms grasp her. The Figure.
One arm completely wraps her shoulders restricting any
movement she could make to break free. The second hand covers
her mouth, she struggles, tries to scream but all comes that
comes out is a muffled whimper. CAMERA PULLS IN ON HER FACE.

EXT. ROTHERFEILD SMOKING AREA – LATE AFTERNOON

CAMERA PULLS OUT OF ALYSSIA’S FACE Alyssia shakes her head,

shocked and worried about the vision she just had about the
consequences of her actions. CAMERA ONCE AGAIN ARCS 180c TO AN
OVER-SHOULDER SHOT She breathes heavily and then calms her
breath. PAN WITH CENTRALISED FRAMING Alyssia looks once more
at her one friend and the strangers PANS TO OTHER GROUP WITH
RULE OF THIRDS then approaches her long term, trustworthy
friends, they greet her with a warm welcome and she sits down
and has a genuine smile on her face.
