OUR ENVIRONMENT NOWADAYS

Hello everyone! I am (Your name) as one of the people in the community, I would like to present a
speech about the environmental awareness. As the title itself our environment nowadays.

The environment plays a crucial role in the growth and development of all the living things on Earth,
especially to humanity’s everyday life. Environmental conditions play a vital role in determining the
quality of life that human leads.

The environment is the natural world that comprises of air, water, land, animals, plants, etc. as our
surrounding. This Environment is a legacy given to us by the universe in a perfect condition with
abundant natural resources.

Before those institution of industrialization, the environment was in a pretty good state- with clean
water resources, pure air, fertile soil, and happy natural environment for all living things.

However, people has directly impacted the whole ecosystem, leading to many environmental issues
and problems. The increasing demand for industries, natural resources, and technologies in today’s
world has impacted Mother Earth. This, in turn, has led to other series of problems and has altered
the whole environment in sudden way.

By the abuse of Human society, it became the main reason behind the degeneration of the natural
habitat which has now altered and led to the adverse effects on this planet. Human actions in the
contemporary world have impacted and caused an imbalance to the ecosystem. Many of our
activities have created extreme changes, resulting in most of the environmental problems.

The speed with which we are consuming our natural resources and polluting our environment is
really a matter of concern. Today the environmental issues have been become the greatest concern
for the whole world.

For the cause that harm our environment, are these factors that threaten the environment:

• High quantity of exhaust gases: The biggest reason by far for all kinds of environmental
damage is the exorbitant amount of gases, harmful to the environment, which is released by the
various industries.

• Deforestation: This is one of the major causes for one simple reason; it decreases the
number of trees, which clean the environment, provide oxygen and also affect the rain patterns.

• Chemical effluents: Effluents are another by-product of industries which poses threat to the
environment, leather and tanning industries, petroleum industries and chemical manufacturing
industries create major waste products which are released directly into nearby streams without
treatment, creating river pollution and causing harm to aquatic life.
• The over-consumption of natural resources have led to improper waste disposal, and they
have resulted in the massive depository of hazardous and solid waste.

• Transport: As the spending power of the population increases and as cars become available
more, the number of vehicles on the road increases.

Through the fines and penalties for violators of this Act and its IRR:

Upon the recommendation of the Pollution Adjudication Board (PAB), anyone who commits
prohibited acts such as discharging untreated wastewater into any water body will be fined for every
day of violation, the amount of not less than Php 10,000 but not more than Php 200,000.

Failure to undertake clean-up operations willfully shall be punished by imprisonment of not less than
two years and not more than four years. This also includes a fine of not less than Php 50,000 and not
more than Php 100,000 per day of violation. Failure or refusal to clean up which results in serious
injury or loss of life or lead to irreversible water contamination of surface, ground, coastal and
marine water shall be punished with imprisonment of not less than 6 years and 1 day and not more
than 12 years and a fine of Php 500,000/day for each day the contamination or omission continues.

In cases of gross violation, a fine of not less than Php 500,000 but not more than Php 3,000,000 will
be imposed for each day of violation. Criminal charges may also be filed.
