LET’S DISCUSS
A decimal is any number, including whole numbers, in our base-ten
number system.
In a decimal, the dot between the numbers is called the decimal point.
It divides the decimal into two, the whole number part and the decimal part.
For example, the decimal 5.2538 has two parts. The number on the left
side of the decimal point is the whole number part, while the numbers at the
right side of the decimal point is the decimal part.
The digit after the decimal point is called tenths. The second digit after
the decimal point is called hundredths. The third digit after the decimal point
is called thousandths. The fourth digit after the decimal point is called ten
thousandths, and so on.
