I Scope
API SPEC 6A, in conjunction with this specification, and the Purchase Order, defines the
minimum requirements for Saudi Aramco oil and gas production trees, wellheads, valves
and miscellaneous equipment relating to the wellhead as covered by API SPEC 6A.
A. Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco
Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs),
Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be
resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the
Manager, Drilling Technical Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.
B. Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or
Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company procedure SAEP-302
and forward such requests to the Manager, Drilling Technical Department of
Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.
III References
The selection of material and equipment, and the design, construction, maintenance, and
repair of equipment and facilities covered by this specification shall comply with the
latest edition of the references listed below, unless otherwise noted.

Commentary Note:
IV Definitions
Buyer or Purchaser: The Company (Saudi Aramco, ASC, or AOC) actually placing
the order for the material.
Vendor: The other party to the order for the material who is supplying may or may not
be the manufacturer of the equipment.
Buyer's Representative: The person acting on behalf of the Buyer or Purchasing, who
may be from the Drilling Technical Department, Vendor Inspection (or his agent).
V Qualifications of Equipment/Manufacturers
A. The vendor's plant shall be API-approved for the Product Specification Level
specified in the P.O.
B. The RSA may require that the vendor's product be tested and approved via the
RSA's Trial Test Program before it is considered acceptable.
The following paragraph numbers Refer to API SPEC 6A, “Wellhead and Christmas
Tree Equipment,” which is part of this specification. The text in each paragraph below
is an addition, exception, modification, or deletion to API SPEC 6A as noted.
Paragraph numbers not appearing in API SPEC 6A are new paragraphs to be inserted in
numerical order.
SECTION 600
601 (ADDITION) PSL 1-4 The items manufactured to this specification are
subject to the verification by the Buyer's Inspection Representative per
Saudi Aramco Inspection Requirements Form 175 (either 175-453800 or
175-453900) attached to the Purchase Order.

PSL-4 equipment. The meeting must be held before any action against
the order is taken by the manufacturer as soon as possible after receipt
date of the order.
605.2a(3) (ADDITION) PSL 1-4 Each piece of 10M psi rated equipment listed in
the drawing of Appendix A shall have its hardness tests performed in the
locations so marked on the appropriate manufacturer's representative or
generic drawings located in Appendix A.
605.2c(10) (ADDITION) PSL-3 only All equipment rated at 10M psi working
pressure or above must have prior approval (via Saudi Aramco
Manufacturer's Deviation Review Procedure (AMDR) (see Appendix D
for details) before any weld repairs may be made.

605.9c(3) (ADDITION) PSL 1-4 All cast body equipment - Prior to hydrostatic
test of cast body equipment, an acid bath of 15% unihibited HCL is
required. An immersion time of 15 minutes is required. In addition, all
cast body equipment (of all pressure ratings) require both hydrostatic and
gas tests to working pressure after acid bath.
605.9c(5) (ADDITION) PSL 1-4 Functional tests of all valves shall be conducted
at full differential pressure between 1st and 2nd seat tests. Valves
ordered with actuators shall be tested with actuator installed.
PSL 1-4 100% of the equipment shall also be nitrogen gas tested as per
PSL-4 requirements. Should each flange of the equipment carry a
different working pressure, only the 10M flange is to be gas tested.
See Appendix B drawings.

SECTION 900
913.4 (ADDITION) PSL 1-4 Production trees and side outlet valves on spools
shall be assembled as per drawings in Appendix C.
This section covers the minimum mandatory coating requirements for the external
protection of any equipment manufactured under this materials specification.
The specifications of the coating system to be applied are:
- The applied coating system composes of three layers coating system.
- Each layer has identified thickness for each manufacturer approved coating system as
per Table 1 of Appendix D.
- The coating system layers are zinc rich epoxy or inorganic zinc as primer, polyamide
epoxy as a middle coat and aliphatic polyurethane as a top coat.
The approved coating system specification which meets Saudi Aramco technical
requirement per wellhead manufacturer is listed below:
1. Cameron coating specification is X-197777-04 Rev-09 dated 3/3/2010.
2. FMC coating specification is C81601 Rev-E dated 22/6/2006.
3. GE Oil and Gas coating specification VGS 19.1.25 Rev.1 dated 14/7/2004.
The equipment manufactured to this specification are subject to the verification by the
Buyer's Inspection Representative per Saudi Aramco Inspection Requirements Form
175-091450 for proper coating application.

This procedure is to be used when any deviation from the assigned Specification, Procedure or
Purchase Order description is noted by Buyer's Inspection Representative or the Manufacturer's
Inspection Department.
I. This section is the “formal” AMDR process and will only pertain to all equipment
produced under API SPEC 6A PSL-4 service level rating.
B. Saudi Aramco Vendor Inspection (SAVI) evaluates the problem and determines if
the situation constitutes the use of the balance of this section of the AMDR
Procedure. If this formal section is not required by SAVI, use procedure in section
2 (informal) to obtain deviation approvals.
C. If the procedure is required, SAVI advises the Manufacturer to submit a full report
and advises the RSA and Buyer of the deviation. If applicable, the Manufacturer
should notify the Vendor.
a. XMDR-AOC(or ASC)-87-YYY-000-ZZ
d. The “YYY” is the sequentially numbered report for the subject order
number.

f. The “ZZZ” is the first letters of the location of the Manufacturer's plant.
For example, AOC would use “SIN” to identify Gray's Singapore plant.
This number would indicate AOC 1991 report number 003 concerning
order 8926 being made in Gray's Singapore plant.
