LESSON PLAN CLASS-VI

BOOK: HONEYSUCKLE
DURATION: 2 Pds. DATE: 15-16 November,

CH:7 – Fair Play TEACHER -

TYPE: Fiction

1. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The students will be able to:-
1.1 skim the text for main ideas,
1.2 understand the value of justice and honesty towards duty,
1.3 listen for details,
1.4 understand and use words in context,
1.5 understand and talk about given facts,
1.6 understand and use appropriate voice modulation while reading.

2. METHODOLOGY:

2.1 PRE-READING:

ACTIVITY: Student will be given a general quiz based on moral and polling results
will be shown and discussed in the class
Questions in quiz
 Do you have a friend or friends ?
 Has your friend ever done something wrong?
 What did they do ?
 What did you do about it ?
 What is more important to you?

Thereafter, introduction of the story will be given a video clip will be played in class.

2.2. WHILE-READING:
The teacher would read the text aloud, one extract at a time and ask the students to
reason and analyse what is happening in the story. This will aid comprehension.

Understanding new words in context (TPS) The students will be asked to pair with
the person sitting next and share the meanings of the new words with them. This will
be done under the guidance of the teacher.

The students will frame questions based on the text which will be discussed in the
class.
e.g. Extract 1 & 2: “Jumman Shaikh............................ has its limits.”

Possible Questions: a. Why were Jumman and Algu respected in the village?
b. What was the arrangement between Jumman and his
aunt?

Difficult words – obvious, patience

Extract 3 & 4: “ One day she spoke to............ringing in his ears.”


Possible Questions: a. What made Jumman’s aunt angry?
b. What were the words that kept ringing in Algu’s
ears?
Difficult words – mum, allowance

After reading and discussing each extract and word meanings individually and in
pair, the teacher will use mind maps to discuss unfamiliar vocabulary with the help of
Frayer’s Model.

Extract 5 & 6: “The meeting was held..............all I have to say.”


Possible Questions: a. Why did Jumman’s aunt nominate Algu as the head
of the Panchayat?
b. “God lives in the heart of the Panch and his voice
is the voice of God.” What does this line mean?

Difficult words - nominate, abide by

Extract 7 & 8: “Jumman was cross-examined..............wanted his revenge.”


Possible Questions: a. What was the judgement passed by Algu?
b. Why did Algu and Jumman become enemies?

Difficult words - cross-examine, revenge

ACTIVITY:
After completing the above extracts of the lesson, the teacher will invite the students
to imagine they are Algu. She will have them brainstorm the dilemma of whether to
support or go against Jumman in the situation. This group activity will be done in the
beginning of the second class.

The remaining extracts will be done after the activity.

Extract 9 & 10: “Days passed and....................he said angrily.”


Possible Questions: a. What was the tight spot Algu Choudhury found
himself?
b. Whay did Sahu get annoyed?

Difficult words - tight spot, annoyed

Extract 11 & 12: “ Algu decided to refer..................... abide by his decision.”


Possible Questions: a. Why were preparations made for holding the
panchayat for the second time?
b. What did Algu stand up and say during the meeting
of the Panchayat ?

Difficult words: refer

Extract 13 & 14: “ Sahu saw his chance..................... truth and doing justice.”
Possible Questions: a. Why did Sahu propose the name of Jumman as
the head Panch?
b. What was Algu’s reaction on hearing Jumman’s
name and why?

Difficult words: dignity, justice

Extract 15 & 16: “ Both Algu and Sahu stated.....................understanding


between them.”
Possible Questions: a. What was Jumman’s decision on hearing Sahu?
b. What did Jumman realise at the end of the story?
Difficult words: disability, embrace

2.3. POST-READING:
For recapitulation, the teacher will ask the students simple questions from the extract
and they will attempt to answer them to the best of their understanding. She will
guide them wherever required to correct them.

ACTIVITY:
Students would be asked to express their opinions on ‘What is justice? What are the
ways we can show justice and fairness in your school?’ through a declamation
competition.

The students will also be asked to attempt Exercise A from the ‘Working with Text ’
section of the lesson to consolidate their understanding of the passage. The teacher
will help them formulate the answers of the questions given at the end of the lesson.

3. ASSIGNMENT:
Period 1: Exercise A and B from the ‘Working with Text’ section (Page 91) of the
lesson will be given as homework.
Period 2: Exercise A and B from the ‘Working with Language’ section (Page 92) of
the lesson will be given as homework.

4. TAL:
Power Point Presentation on the summary and morals learnt from the story.

Textbook, Smartboard and PowerPoint Presentation.
