• By the end of the lesson/topic, learners should be able to:

• Identify the different access points and gateways (air, land, and
sea) to and within the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR);
• Identify the major attractions (man-made, natural),
accommodations, and unique cultural highlights and practices,
including languages, dialects, festivals, gastronomy, industry, and
crafts within CAR;
• Appreciate the historical highlights of the different provinces and
other local government units (LGUs) within CAR;
• Identify the provinces and attractions of CAR on an outline map;
and
• Create different travel itineraries that cover different types of
tourism attractions and activities within CAR Region for different
types of tourists.

How to get there

• How to get there:

• By Land: via MacArthur Highway, North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac


Expressway (SCTEX), and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX)

• By Land: Due to its geographic nature as the only landlocked region in the
country, the Cordillera Administrative region is only accessible by land through the
MacArthur Highway or via the interconnected expressway systems from Manila, Ilocos
Region, and Central Luzon Region. Regular bus trips are offered by various companies from
Manila to the provinces of CAR.

• Getting Around: Private van and car rentals are available to move around the
region as well as public modes of transportation. One can take a bus to move from one
province to the other or a jeepney and tricycle to get around towns.

• Most of the tribes in Benguet have their own
languages or dialects. The Ibaloi tribes speak
Ibaloy, which is similar to Pangasinan.
• The Kankana-ey tribe has their language, which is
related to the Bontoc language.
• Many inhabitants also speak Ilokano, Tagalog, and
English for trade and commerce.

The Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras

The five inscribed clusters are:


(i) the Nagacadan terrace cluster in the
municipality of Kiangan,
(ii) the Hungduan terrace cluster that
uniquely emerges into a spider web;
(iii) the central Mayoyao terrace cluster
which is characterized by terraces
interspersed with traditional
farmers’ bale (houses)
and alang (granaries);
(iv) (iv) the Bangaan terrace cluster in the
municipality of Banaue that
backdrops a typical Ifugao traditional
village; and
(v) (v) the Batad terrace cluster of the
municipality of Banaue that is nestled
in amphitheatre-like semi-circular
terraces with a village at its base.
Hudhud

The Hudhud consists of narrative chants traditionally


performed during the rice sowing season, at harvest
time and at funeral wakes and rituals.

• The Bul-ul or Bulol, as


it is locally known, is
an Ifugao
anthropomorphic
carving that
symbolizes an
Ifugao rice God. It
also signifies fertility
and is believed to
gain spirits of
ancestors or
guardians. Bulul,

carved wooden figure
with simple shape of
a human being, male
or female

noble and it symbolizes bravery.
• Tattoo is a status symbol which men
respect and which women admire and is
given to warriors or "mingol" as reward.

charcoal and pine soot mixed as paste for the ink
