PREPARE TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT


FOR SPECIFIC BAKING PURPOSES
LO1: PREPARE TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT FOR SPECIFIC BAKING PURPOSES

Objectives:
1. Identify baking tools and equipment and their uses.
2. Operate an oven.

Introduction:
Bread and Pastry Production (also known as Baking and Pastry Production) is a
technical-vocational program that develops the skills of students in preparing and producing
bakery/pastry products, cakes and desserts.
Success of producing baked products largely depend on the one who did the baking,
the baker itself. Without knowledge on the basic skills of baking will lead to failure of the
product.

Baking is a delicate method of cooking food. It requires special tools and equipment
in order to bring out the best results.

To prepare yourself so that you will know how to bake, you have to know first the
different tools and equipment to be used in baking.

LESSON : DIFFERENT TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED IN BAKING

Baking tools are those handy materials use in baking.


Equipment are those heavy materials use in producing and baking baked products. These
involved mechanical operation.

BAKING TOOLS AND ITS USES

BAKING TOOLS USES


1.Measuring Spoons It is used to measure small quantities ingredients.
2.Liquid Measuring cups Used to measure liquid ingredients.
3.Measuring cups A cups use to measure dry ingredients such as flour and
sugar.
4.Weighing scale Used to measure weight of an items or ingredients.
5.Wooden Ladle It used in mixing and creaming.
6.Wire Whisk Used in beating an egg.
7. Dough Cutter Used to cut dough(Dough is a mixture of flour and water)
8.Spatula It is used to spread an icing on cakes.
9. Rolling pin Long cylinder that rolled over the dough or pastry
10. Strainer It is used to separate the solid particles from liquid.
11. Rubber Scraper It is used to mix and spreading and scraping.

12. Round Baking pans Used in baking cakes with a round shapes.

13. Loaf Pans Used for making sliced bread or loaf bread.
14. Pizza Pan Specialized flat sheet used for making pizza.
15. Grater Used to grate food such as cheese or chocolates.
16. Sheet Pan/ Baking Sheet Used for baking jelly rolls, and other baked goods.
17. Tube Pan/Chiffon Pan Pan for baking chiffon cakes.
18. Mixing Bowls Used to mix ingredients in making cakes, pies and cookies.
19. Cupcakes/Muffin Pan Used in baking cupcakes or muffins.
20. Pie Pan Used making pie.
21. Cookie Sheet Used in baking cookies.
BAKING EQUIPMENT
1. Industrial Oven Used for baking
2. Gas Range Kind of oven that is also used in baking.
3. Hand Mixer Powered device used to stir and blend mixtures used in
baking.
4. Heavy Duty Mixer Used in creaming and making and icing.

HOW TO OPERATE AN OVEN

An oven is thermally chamber used for baking, heating, or drying and


commonly used for cooking. One must know how to use and operate it.

There are different types of ovens available on the market. First is a gas-powered
oven and the other one is an electric powered oven. A gas-powered oven is much easier to

adjust the temperatures on a gas range while the electric powered oven heat up faster. Gas
ovens have gas lines running along the bottom of the oven. Electric ovens have coils
above and below the racks that are superheated to produce the heat in its heating elements.

STEPS IN OPERATING GAS RANGE OVEN

1. Check the hose from the gas tank to the oven.


2. Turn on the gas tank regulator.
3. Open the oven door.
4. Turn on the temperature knob- the pilot knob.
5. On the pilot light, light it with a match to produce a flame.
6. Set the temperature on the desired heat needed in the recipe.
7. Close the oven door.
