COURTESY

I am here to present a brief introduction of courtesy. Now let’s see what the courtesy
is?
Knowing your audience allows you to use the statement of courtesy. Courtesy means
the use of polite words and gestures, being appreciative, thoughtful, tactful, and
showing respect to the receiver. It is not only thinking about receiver but also valuing
his feelings. Courtesy comes from a sincere you-attitude and it is not merely insertion
of “please” and “thank you”, rather it is politeness that grows out of respect and
concern for others. In business communication, almost everything starts and ends in
courtesy. A courteous message helps to builds goodwill for an organization which
may worth thousands or even billion of dollars.

There are three guiding principles to generate courteous tone.

 Be sincere tactful, thoughtful and appreciative.
 Use expressions that show respect.
 Omit questionable humor.
