Definition of IoT

1
The Internet of Things, or IoT, is essentially an ecosystem of physical
devices, vehicles, appliances, and other things that have the ability to
connect, collect and exchange data over a wired and wireless network, with
little or no human-to-human or human-to-computer intervention (Cass,
2018).

Timeline of Development

1969-1998 (Development of ARPANET, vending machine, toaster, GPS, IPv6)

1999 (The term “Internet of Things” first use by Kevin Ashton of MIT)

2007-2009 (The first iPhone was release)

2013-2015 (Google start testing self-driving cars)

2016 (Uber and Tesla are all testing self-driving cars)

2017-2020 ( IoT continues to grow as Internet penetration. AI, Blockchain, edge

computing, cheap devices and sensors proliferate)

How IoT Works

2
RFID- TO IDENTIFY AND TRACK THE DATA OF THINGS
SENSOR- TO COLLECT AND PROCESS THE DATA TO DETECT THE CHANGES IN THE
PHYSICAL STATUS OF THINGS
SMART TECH- TO ENHANCE THE POWER OF THE NETWORK BY DEVOLVING
PROCESSING CAPABILITIES TO DIFFERENT PART OF THE NETWORK
NANO TECH- TO MAKE THE SMALLER AND SMALLER THINGS HAVE THE ABILITY TO
CONNECT AND INTERACT

Components of IoT

 CONNECTIVITY
 SENSORS
 PEOPLE AND PROCESSES

IoT Applications

 MANAGEMENT
 RETAIL
 LOGISTICS
 PHARMACEUTICALS
 PRODUCTION
 EDUCATION
 FOODS
IoT Benefits to Organizations

3
 MAKE BETTER BUSINESS DECISIONS
 ENHANCE EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY
 IMPROVE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
 GENERATE MORE REVENUE
 INTEGRATE AND ADAPT BUSINESS MODELS
 SAVE TIME AND MONEY
 MONITOR THEIR OVERALL BUSINESS PROCESSES

Pros and Cons of IoT

5
PROS

 Accessing information is easy, you can control a device that is miles

apart in real time

 Communication between the connected devices become more

transparent and easier

 Transferring data packet over a network reduces both time and

money

 Automation is the need of the hour; IoT reduces human intervention &
increases efficiency of services

CONS

 There is a huge risk of leakage of confidential data, when sent over a

network

 Due to its complex network, a single loophole can put the entire
system down, affecting everyone

 With automation, the need of human labor reduces drastically

 Today’s lifestyle is technology driven, we depend on technology for

the tiniest of task.
Top 7 IoT (Internet of Things) Projects

6
1. BIOMETRIC SYSTEMS

2. SMART IRRIGATION SYSTEM

3. SECURITY CAMERA & DOOR LOCK SYTEM

4. SMART HOME

5. SMART CITY

6. Zelda Ocarina Controlled Home Automation

7. Jarvis

CONCLUSION

7
TO GENERALIZE THE REPORT “THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF
INTERNET OF THINGS IS TO AUTOMATE HUMAN LIFE.”
INTERNET OF THINGS IS NO USE WITHOUT THE INTERNET
TO CONNECT THE PHYSICAL DEVICES TO HAVE ACCESS
TO COLLECT. CONNECT, AND EXCHANGES DATA OVER
WIRED OF WIRELESS NETWORK WITH LESS HUMAN
INPUT. INTERNET OF THINGS IS A TREND TODAY AND
SOON ALL TECHNOLOGY THAT PEOPLE USE WILL DEPEND
ON THE INTERNET.
