Report projects decrease in

Adirondack lake trout
Posted: Tuesday, December 16, 2014 10:00 am

KEENE VALLEY (AP) — A new report by The Nature Conservancy

projects a decrease in lake trout habitat in the Adirondacks due to
increasing water temperatures, fertilizer runoff and competition from
non-native species like bass and pike.
The report released Monday by the organization's Adirondack chapter
provides a baseline reference on the region's lake trout population and
recommendations for communities and landowners to guard the long-
term water quality of their lake-trout lakes.
The report says lake trout no longer inhabit 74 Adirondack lakes
with a historical record of the species. It suggests a follow-up study
to evaluate the long-range viability of the 102 known Adirondack lake
trout waters.
Lake trout have the most demanding temperature and oxygen
requirements of New York's game fish. Water must be very cold and
highly oxygenated.

Test Results Summary:

The test results for the integrated Geoweb/TRM system far exceed the
limits of separately-reported values of the Geoweb system or turf
reinforcement mats
Impressive Test Results1:
-High Velocities with Peak Flows Over 29 ft./sec (8.8
m/sec)
-High Shear Stresses up to 15.9 lbf/ft2 (77.6 kgf/m2)
-Zero Topsoil Loss
Hardier grass types may improve the results beyond those
reported.
