1. Why is planning in business organizations important?
Answer:
Planning in business organizations is very important because it helps to set the right
goals that can helps to critically assess the goal to see if it’s realistic. It facilitates
decision making and allows setting a time frame by predicting when the company can
achieve its goal.

2. Discuss at least two (2) principles of PLANNING.


Answer:
PRINCIPLES OF PLANNING
 Planning must be realistic because it is best way to be realistic, when planning
at the beginning of the project and revising the plan during the execution make the
plan as accurate a prediction of the project outcome as possible and should
educate all stakeholders to the reality that, when it comes to projects, the only
certainty is uncertainty
 Planning must be social responsibility because being a socially responsible
company can bolster a company’s image and build its brand. Social responsibility
empowers employees to leverage the corporate resources at their disposal to do
good. Formal corporate social responsibility programs can boost employee morale
and lead to greater productivity in the workforce.

3. Explain this quote, “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” – Benjamin Franklin


Answer:
This quote meant , it is basically success doesn't happen by accident, it takes
planning that knowing where you are heading and how you will get there and the best
way to plan is to use a planner. After all any goal not written down is just a dream

4. What do you think is the most common reason why planning fails?
Answer:
I think the most common reason why planning fails is to attempts fail when they are
not integrated into the day-to-day operations of the organization. A strategic plan without
an implementation strategy is not likely to be used. Sometimes planning fails because
there is poor understanding of the planning steps or planning concepts.

1. How do you understand “Organizing” as a management function?
Answer:
Organizing is the function of management that involves developing an
organizational structure and allocating human resources to ensure the
accomplishment of objectives. The structure of the organization is the framework
within which effort is coordinated.

2. What is the relationship between planning and organizing?


Answer:
The relationship between planning and organizing is that the nature of business
planning, the ability of effectively organize is of utmost importance. Each step of the
planning is simplified when organized properly. For instance, organizing your
research task helps you come to reasonable conclusions more quickly. In addition,
planning involves making decisions, and organizing involves acting on those
decisions.

3. Why is there a need to do “organizing” in organizations?


What is an Informal Organization? What are its functions?
Answer:
Because by keeping organized, you will save time looking for things and will
have more time to work on important tasks and lead to better coordination, also
helping in the overall development of organization and its goals. The informal
organization is the interlocking social structure that governs how people work
together in practice and its function is to maintain cultural values of people and to
provide social satisfaction to members, also provides an effective means of
communication to its members.

4. Differentiate a line authority from staff authority. You may cite specific examples.
Answer:
The difference between line authority and staff authority is that line authority
reflects superior-subordinate relationships characterized by the power of decision
making, for example of managers within a business who have line authority are the
controller, engineering manager, production manager, and sales manage. Whereas
staff authority refers to the right to advice on improving the effectiveness for line
employees in performing their duties, for example, the cost accountant advises the
sales manager on which products have the highest margins, and so are the most
valuable products to sell.

Answer:
In management, staffing is an operation of recruiting the employees by evaluating
their skills and knowledge before offering them specific job roles accordingly. The
staffing model refers to data that measures work activities, how many labor hours are
needed, and how employee time is spent.

2. What are the eight (8) steps in the staffing process? Enumerate.
Answer:

Answer:
The difference of job description from job specification is that job description is a
document which states an overview of the duties, responsibilities and functions of a
specific job in an organisation, whereas job specification is a statement of the
qualifications, personality traits, skills, etc. Required by an individual to perform the job.

4. Why is there a need to conduct performance appraisal in your organization?


Answer:
Because conducting performance appraisal in our organization are allowed
management personnel to establish guidelines for compensation increases, track
employee strengths and weaknesses, identify the best candidates for promotion, offer
feedback for improvements and promote training programs.

5. What have you learned in this lesson about “Staffing”? Discuss comprehensively.
Answer:

1. In your own words, what is “motivation”?
Answer:
In my own words about motivation, it’s reflects something unique about each one of
us and allows us to gain valued outcomes like improved performance, enhanced well-
being, personal growth, or a sense of purpose. Motivation is a pathway to change our way
of thinking, feeling, and behaving

2. Why is there a need to motivate your subordinates/employees?


Answer:
Because to motivate them is the key to an organisation’s success. It’s the level of
commitment, drive and energy that a company’s workers bring to the role everyday.
Without it, companies experience reduced productivity, lower levels of output and it’s
likely that the company will fall short of reaching important goals too.

3. Differentiate a leader from a manager.


Answer:
The difference of leadership from a manager is that leader is a process whereby an
individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Leaders are
motivational in nature and to produce change and movement and managers produce order
and consistency. where managers focus on maintaining performance. And managers
produce order and consistency.

4. If you are the human resource manager, what motivation theory are you going to apply in
your workplace?
Answer:
If I am the human resource manager, the motivation theory are I going to apply in
workplace is that reinforcement theory because it’s tries to explain what motivates good
and bad behavior in the workplace. It also gives a mechanism to influence the behavior of
our team using what the theory refers to as reinforcement, punishment or extinction. For
example is that if an employee identifies a new market opportunity that creates profit, an
organization may give her a bonus. This will positively reinforce the desired behavior.

5. If you are one of the managers in a company, what leadership style will you portray?
Why?
Answer:
If I am the one of the managers in a company, the leadership style willy I portray is
that participative leader because it is one of the most effective leadership styles because it
allows lower-level employees to exercise authority they’ll need to use wisely in future
positions they might hold. It also resembles how decisions can be made in company
board meetings.

1. What is “Controlling” in Management? Describe in your own words.
Answer:
Controlling can be defined as that function of management which helps to seek
planned results from the subordinates, managers and at all levels of an organization. The
controlling function helps in measuring the progress towards the organizational goals &
brings any deviations, & indicates corrective action.

2. What do we mean by Management Control?


Answer:
Management control is a process that helps to achieve organizational goals that
torture by business management to compare performance in order to determine whether
performance is in line with these standards and presumably in order to take any remedial
action required to see that human and other corporate resources are being used in the
most effective and efficient way possible in achieving corporate objectives, also forced to
perform specific actions and avoid another set of particular actions so that they can reach
their destined target.

3. Discuss the Control Process.


Answer:
THE CONTROL PROCESS
 Establish standard of performance – it is a performance standards describe the
accepted level of performance by an employee on the job. They are based on the
position, not the individual. They describe the specific indicators of success for
each skill within a competency map. They illustrate, what a good job looks like.
 Measurement of performance – it is generally defined as regular measurement of
outcomes and results, which generates reliable data on the effectiveness and
efficiency of programs, input, resources which is human resources, employee
time, funding that used to conduct activities and provide services. Also activity.
 Taking corrective action – it is requires identifying the problem and implementing
a potential solution. It is also a quality management that aims to rectify a task,
process, product, or even a person's behavior when any of these factors produce
errors or have deviated from an intended plan.

Answer:
Post action control is a to focus on the outputs of the organization after the
transformation process is complete. Although it is to used alone may not be as effective
as preliminary or screening control, it can provide management with information for
future planning.

5. Why is Controlling needed in all organizations? You may cite specific situational
examples.
Answer:
Controlling is needed in all organizations because it helps identify errors and
deviation from standards so that corrective actions can be taken to achieve goals. The
purpose of organizational control is to ensure that a specific function is performed
according to established standards. For example, the top-level employee will control the
actions of his/her co-worker and manager the performance of the employee and similarly,
a low-level employee is answerable to a employee.
