Basic first aid is a very useful skill and knowledge that we can easily use during
accidents and emergencies.
The role of an official is very important in any sports event. He or she is the one who
determines whether a physical activity is a success or a failure.
It is essential for an aspiring officiating individual to acquire several qualities for him to meet
the goal of having a satisfying, complaint-free, impartial, and successful game. The following
are the qualities to be considered:
• Physical Qualities
• Emotional Qualities
• Mental Qualities
• Social Qualities
PHYSICAL QUALITIES
These characteristics apply to a person's physical aspect as an officiating official.
Because an official must be able to keep up with every detail of the game, he must be
physically fit to do his job.
EMOTIONAL QUALITIES
These characteristics refer to a game official's emotional readiness to perform his or
her duties. An official's confidence in making game decisions should be earned through
mastering all the game's rules and regulations.
MENTAL QUALITIES
These characteristics encompass all aspects of a game official's mental preparation.
These abilities necessitate the ability to maintain attention, regulate one's performance, deal
with pressure, be aware of and control one's emotions and feelings, and have proper game
command and control.
SOCIAL QUALITIES
These characteristics refer to one's capacity to cope with others (players, coaches,
crowds, and so on) in any given situation. Complaints are unavoidable in this game. It is a
game official's capacity to resolve conflicts without jeopardizing the integrity of the game
officiating team.
