TASK 4 (CRITICAL ATTRIBUTES OF THE 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION)

Directions: Please answer the following questions. (20 points)

Questions to answer:

1. Will information and communication technology make a difference in the teaching-learning process? How?

Definitely yes. As the world keeps on revolving so as the standard and developments of education. What
was once a traditional learning has now become modernized, making the teaching-learning process even
more conducive for both learners and teachers. Upon saying this, it just means that the function of
information and communication technology is not only limited to connecting people across the globe,
but is highly important to boost the creativity, give substantial information, and educate learners through
the diverse educational information present in media outlets.

2. How can teachers effectively use computers and the Internet in the classroom?

By projecting the technical usage and the ethical usage of internet, teachers shall be able to effectively
impart this knowledge to learners. Technically, teachers need to have media literacy because one what
knows is what one tells and what one doesn’t know, one cannot tell. Ethically, teachers also have the
guide as per utilizing what is presented and what is applicable for students to use. They need to inculcate
in them the need to be safe, proper and ethical when it comes to dealing with technology.

3. How would you prepare the students to handle the unreliable and unscholarly materials found in the Internet?

Fake news is a major problem in today’s media outlets. As a future teacher, one effective way to teach
learners is to identify the sites which are reliable and gives only factual information. By giving them the
list of what to and what not to use, they shall be able to analyze and learn the differences therein between
a fake site versus a reliable source.

4. Discuss the relationship between education and industry and the mismatch between the knowledge and skills
acquired by the students and the industry needs.

This is an obvious fact that but an important one to bear in mind that for years the schools have made
use of the products and services of many businesses and industries for years. Education has
traditionally taken palace in buildings designed for that purpose, and private architectural and
construction firms have provided their services. However, there is some instances that what students
learn in school is not applicable in the needs of industry. This is called “skill mismatch”. Two types of
consequences arise from this. One is that the gap between supply and demand of skills results in
unemployment. On the other hand, the inadequate matching between a firm and a worker might lead to
cut a part of her wage, reduce job satisfaction and productivity at work.

II: How well did you learn the critical attributes of 21st century education in your own setting? Let’s see as you
work out this activity. For each critical attribute in Column 1, provide Suggested and Learning Activities to
achieve the attribute in Column 1. (40 points)

CRITICAL ATTRIBUTES OF 21ST SUGGESTED TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES

CENTURY EDUCATION
1. Integrated and Interdisciplinary ➢ Study Free Test Preparation
Preparing students for an upcoming exam or standardized
test by exploring how to prepare aside from studying, gives
them methods to use throughout their academic careers.
➢ News Analysis
Giving students news clip that discusses a local, national
or international topic. Then, give them a related question
to solve either individually or in teams.
➢ All About Weather
Connect science with social studies by presenting a unit
that explores the impact of weather which can be
supplemented by studying how they affect societies.

2. Technologies and Multimedia ➢ Creative Digital Content

Creating digital content related to the things they are
learning is a great way for students to display their
individual creative talents as well as showcase learning.
➢ Video/Multimedia Lesson and Presentation
Bring presentations to life for students by incorporating
visual effects, photos, videos, and music into them are
all fun and creative ways to boost engagement with
lessons while teaching the benefits of technology and
multimedia use.
➢ Using a Classroom Calendar
Develop a shared online calendar for your classroom
through Google Calendar or a similar program for
posting important updates. Post assignment due dates
and classroom events in one easily-accessible location
for both teachers and students.

3. Global Classrooms ➢ Online Webinar

Students interact online with other nationalities
discussing a certain topic and sharing insights
➢ Incorporating Global Perspectives
Students read about and compare / contrast issues in
education with the US and other parts of the world, for
instance.
➢ Case Study
Can be anything related to the content. For example, my
students did a case study on Syrian refugees.
4. Creating/Adapting to Constant ➢ Communication in Mother Tongue
Personal and Social Change, Communication skills are hugely important in enabling
Lifelong Learning children and young people to both express themselves
and develop positive relationships using the language
familiar to them.
➢ Communication in Foreign Language
Acquiring foreign languages will hopefully be something
your students will go on to do throughout their lifetime.
By providing them with the skills to learn foreign vocab
now, you’ll subsequently provide them with a lifelong
learning skill, which they can go on to utilize in both the
workplace and for holidays abroad.
➢ Learning to Learn
By teaching your students how to mind map you can
support this lifelong learning competence. Mind mapping
provides your students with a fun, easy and memorable
method which will help to instill a love of learning in your
students.

5. Student-Centered ➢ Inquiry Based Learning

In this learning strategy, student questions, ideas, and
analysis are highlighted and fostered, focusing on the
student perspective regarding a particular open question
or problem.
➢ Project – Based Learning
This learning strategy depends heavily on student
collaboration, communication, and creativity, with the
teacher serving as a facilitator student work and
progress.
➢ Jigsaw Method
It has evolved and been combined into a center/station
approach. In its most basic form, this strategy involves
students utilizing cooperative learning as they seek to
put the “puzzle” together.

Sharing thoughts, ideas, questions and solutions in
powerful ways.
➢ Collaboration

➢ Creativity
Generating and testing new ideas. Being innovative,
inventive and enterprising.

7. Project- Based Research -Driven ➢ Geocaching

If you’re not able to take your students off-campus to
engage in some real-life “geocaching,” you can always
create your own geocaching treasure hunt for them. It
can incorporate all kinds of skills and knowledge:
geography, math, and even essay writing.
➢ Design an App
With Apple developer tools, students can learn how to
create an app or online game. They can learn about
technology and problem-solving skills while engaged in
what they love.
➢ Research Project
Ask groups of students to identify problems in their
community. They must then do research to come up with
information about this problem and come up with an
“action plan.”

8. Relevant, Rigorous, and real- world ➢ Field Trip

Sometimes instead of bringing the real world into the
classroom, you can take the classroom out into the real
world. Finding institutions that will allow students to
interact with employees can be highly beneficial for
reinforcing many skills.
➢ Mock Job Interview
This is something that students absolutely need to be
prepared for. Not only can you simulate interviews, but
you can also walk them through the whole process of
filling out applications and communicating appropriately
with would-be employers.
➢ Community Work
Giving students opportunities like feeding the homeless
or raising funds for underserved communities can help
bring the real world to the students in your
classroom. This can help students understand the
importance of working together within a community for
the common good.
