Narrative Report
INTRODUCTION

The Department of Education (DepEd), in its

commitment to ensure that education must continue
amidst the challenges and uncertainties of face-to-
face classes brought by Coronavirus Disease 2019
(COVID-19), shall formally open School Year (SY) 2021-
2022. Pursuant to Republic Act No. 11480, the
President, upon the recommendation of the
Secretary, has approved SY 2021-2022 to open on
September 13, 2021.

In preparation for the opening of classes, the Brigada

Eskwela Program shall be implemented from August 3
to September 30, 2021 with focus on collaboration
and strengthening partnership engagements that
complement DepEd efforts to implement the Basic
Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) and to
ensure the delivery of quality basic education
notwithstanding the COVID-19 Pandemic.
INTRODUCTION

“BAYANIHAN” Is one of the core essences of the

Filipino culture where the concept of the Brigada
Eskwela has rooted. Bayanihan or concerted solidarity
is the Fiilipino spirit of helping one another as a
community in achieving a certain task without
expecting or asking for anything in return. This
bayanihan spirit of the Filipino people still remain and
demonstrated in the modern days in many forms
when they go out of their way to help their
countrymen in times of desperate needs.

Brigada Eskwela or school brigade, also known as the

National Schools Maintenance Week, is a nationwide
voluntary effort that was first established in 2003. The
program mobilizes and brings together thousands of
parents, alumni, civic groups, local business, non-
government organizations, teachers, students, and
individuals who volunteer their time and skills.
INTRODUCTION

It is an annual school’s maintenance activity

initiated by DepEd and done nationwide with the
help of various sectors and individuals who
volunteer to do the work, including repairs and
cleanup. It is a campaign that promotes
community participation in time for school
opening. It will bring together experts, teachers,
parents and stakeholders in spreading assistance
among public schools.

The traditional Brigada Eskwela activities such as

physical cleaning, Painting/repainting, Minor
repairs were recognizably done. However,
considering the schools are being used in the
preparation of the learning packets, including the
picking up and returning of the same by the
parents, physical cleaning and disinfection may
be allowed during the two weeks before the
opening of classes in public schools, depending
on the prevailing local risk classification and
community quarantine.
