Explain briefly about Gantt chart with example. (10 marks).

The Gantt chart had been invented by Henry L. Gantt in the 19th century. Both Gantt and Frederick
Taylor founded a technique of describe in production planning and resource loading for factories and
workshops. In the beginning, the Gantt chart was in the form of tables rather than charts then gradually
it has been converted into a chart.

The Gantt chart is presenting the schedule of a project in the form of a chart or graph. It is a bar chart
which detects the start and end time of various activities in the project which indicates resources,
milestones, activities and dependencies. It is an easy method of understanding the project and offers
benefits like knowing the progress of the project, improving communication, reducing resource overload
and better time management. Gantt charts are still viable project management tools due to they
schedule the tasks in sequence of their completion thus providing a detailed view of the task durations
and the resources to be used and they can be used as reference to actual completion of the tasks.

The project of thesis or research study can be illustrated using Gantt chart as it helps in knowing the
progress of the project.
