“ELECTION CANDIDACY” {2022}

Senator Manny Pacquiao

The constitution forbids Duterte from seeking re-election to a second six-year term as president.

Senator Christopher and "Bong" Go, a longtime aide of Duterte, was nominated as a presidential candidate by a rival faction.
During the national assembly of the PDP-Laban Party faction he leads, Go turned down the nomination, then Pacquiao accepted the
nomination of his political allies.

"I am accepting your nomination as candidate for president of the Republic of the Philippines."

Pacquiao was challenged by Duterte to name corrupt government officials in order to show that he was not just campaigning for the
election.

His anti-corruption crusade coincides with the Senate's launch of an investigation into alleged overpricing of medical supplies and
equipment purchased through the government's pandemic response program.
Pacquiao portrays himself as a champion of the disadvantaged and has received numerous accolades for his generosity. What isn't
to like?

Actually, quite a bit. There is his lack of legislative accomplishment as a congressman and senator; his backing for President
Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs, a campaign of extrajudicial killings in which tens of thousands may have perished; and his illiberal
social policy ideas. Whatever the candidate's personal traits and good intentions, a Pacquiao president would be a continuation of
the strongman-savior syndrome, which has done much to keep the Philippines behind.

Francisco Domagoso (Isko Moreno)

Francisco Domagoso, the mayor of Manila, said on Wednesday that he will run for president of the Philippines in 2022.

Domagoso is better known by his stage name Isko Moreno. He is the third politician to declare a presidential run and is widely
regarded as one of the leading candidates in polls.
President Rodrigo Duterte, who cannot run for a second term, has confirmed he will seek the vice presidency, a move critics say is a
play to retain power.

Francisco Domagoso, 47, better known by his celebrity screen name Isko Moreno during his early career in show business, is
the third politician to launch a presidential run and is widely regarded as one of the leading candidates in surveys.

“Accept my candidacy for President of the Philippines,” Domagoso said at a news conference in an impoverished neighborhood of
Manila. “I may not give you ideal government, but we can make it better together.”

As a first-term mayor in Manila, he initiated a cleanliness program, clearing key thoroughfares that were once clogged with
street sellers.
