1.1 INTRODUCTION
It is recommended that you read this manual prior to installing and using the Fiber Optic (FOR). This
manual gives you a complete guide for how to mount, operate and maintain the product, the
installation & maintenance engineers of Operator and other personnel concerned.
1.2 STRUCTURE
This manual describes the basic product and provides overall and detailed functional descriptions of
the repeater. Also, this manual describes how to survey, install and operate the equipment. The
manual is divided into 5 chapters. The overall contents of this manual are as follows:
Chapter 3 - Safety
A thorough study of the site conditions and transmission path requirements should be undertaken prior
to installing the repeater system. The location of antennas, repeater and cable lengths are all
important considerations that must be addressed.
The repeater has been designed for simple easy installation requiring no special tools. With just a few
site preparation tasks out of the way, installation can be accomplished in several hours.

2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
2.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter provides an overall description and operation of the FOR system. This system may be
used to address Network Coverage Enhancements such as those required by Cellular Network
Operators.
The FOR System provides a solution to network coverage problems by allowing a variety of possible
operating configurations in frequency band covered. In addition, the system can be deployed easily
with less investment cost. The FOR can be installed indoor and/or outdoor; it can be mounted on tower,
wall, and floor to satisfy the requirements of different applications.
The FOR System consists of two parts: Master Unit and Remote Unit. The Master unit captures the
BTS signal via Master antenna, then converts it into optic signal and transmits the amplified signal to
the Remote Unit via fiber optic cable. The Remote unit will reconvert the optic signal into RF signal and
provide the signal to the areas where network coverage is inadequate. And the mobile signal is also
amplified and retransmitted to the BTS via the opposite direction.
Figure 2 - 1 Typical FOR Master/Remote Unit
The Master Unit is an aluminum-alloy casing enclosure with IP65 protection that houses all the
components shown in Figure 2-5 (Block Diagram of Master Unit). The Master Unit receives the BTS
via direct coupler closed to BTS. Then converts it into optic signal and transmits the amplified signal to
the Remote Unit via fiber optic cable.
The Remote unit has an aluminum-alloy casing with IP65 protection for high resistance to dust, water
and corroding. The enclosure houses all the components shown in Figure 2-6 (Block Diagram of
Remote Unit). The Remote Unit receives the optic signal from the Master Unit via fiber optic cable. The
Remote Unit reconverts the optic signal to RF signal for the areas where signal is weak or unavailable.

3.1 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this chapter is to give emphasis on the safety on which we divided into four categories,
namely:
Personal safety
Safety of fellow workers
Safety of the public
Safety of equipment and tools
Working on heights or elevated structures is potentially hazardous for person whether directly or
indirectly involved in the work. Having a safety guidelines or procedure can minimize or eliminate
these hazards. With this, we considered the below mentioned requirements before actual
implementation, they are as follows:
Thorough planning
Strict supervision
Personal fitness of workers
Right tools and safety gadgets
3.2 GENERAL
In majority, work on Tower site will be on the property not owned by the Cellular Operators; mostly it is
located in vacant lot near residential areas or building rooftops. With this, it is necessary for the team
that will be involved in the project to conduct a survey to make a detailed planning prior to actual work
commencement.
3.2.2 SUPERVISION
Strict supervision by the Project Team Leader / Supervisor is always a must particularly for those who
will climb the tower or will work in heights. It is the responsibility of the Team Leader/Supervisor to
make sure that all safety measures are taken prior and during work activity.
Persons involved in climbing tower must be aware that once climbing has commenced, there are
changes like wind velocity. Working on tower and high level requires a level of physical fitness and
working on this must be voluntary.
Factors to be considered that may stop the workers or not proceed in climbing towers:
If personnel are already working on tower, they must be alert for any sudden change in weather
conditions. If sudden change in weather is encountered, personnel working must stop and descend
immediately.
4. INSTALLATION & COMMISSIONING
4.1 INTRODUCTION
Every successful installation is attributable to a right planning and right planning cannot be done
without actual site survey. Hence, we will discuss in this chapter the basic site survey procedure,
installation and commissioning guidelines in implementing an FOR system. The step-by-step
guidelines and procedure will allow installation personnel to provide efficient, safe, fast and reliable
FOR system installation.

4.3 INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
1. At the installation site, install the repeater as per specified plan and site layout. The
repeater can be pole-mounted or wall-mounted using the brackets as shown below.
2. Connect one hybrid coupler to the BTS antenna port of the selected sector for each
Band(system).
3. (the sector antenna shall be facing against the area to be covered) as shown in Figure
4-4.
4. Connect a coupler between the hybrid combiner and Main unit with RF Jumper
Cables(see Figure 4-2) as shown in Figure 4-3. Each of the RF Jumper Cables has
N-Male connectors at two ends.
5. Connect 8 optic patch cord(see Figure 4-4) between the fiber optic terminal and the Main
unit. And cover the other patch cords with a plastic bag for protection.
6. Connect the power cable between the BTS AC220V power supply and the Main unit.
7. Start commissioning the repeater (see Section 4.4.2).
4.3.2 REMOTE UNIT
1. At the Remote site, install the remote unit as per specified plan and site layout. The
repeater can be pole-mounted or wall-mounted using the brackets as shown below.
This section guides you to put the FOR system into active service.
4.4.1 PREPARATION
Spectrum Analyzer
Optical power meter
Laptop with FOR Local Test Program
Data cables (for Local Connection of FOR)
Attenuators
Compass
GPS
4.4.2 PROCEDURES FOR MASTER UNIT&REMOTE UNIT
1. Connect the RF cable from Master antenna to the spectrum analyzer and check if the Master
signal is -10~0dBm which is enough for expected output. Record all readings.
2. Turn ON the Master Unit. Observe the LED display on the NMS board. Check for any alarm.
Under normal condition, the POWER LED should be GREEN and the RUN LED should be blinking.
3. Check the optic output power of Master unit which is around -3~+3dBm, then connect the patch
cord to optical terminal.
4. Connect your laptop to the repeater (Master unit) via the USB for changed site ID When
