NOTE 1: This Service Bulletin is applicable only on aircraft equipped with the
modification No. 05562 or Service Bulletin No. ATR72-32-1049.
NOTE 2: This Service Bulletin can be embodied on other ATR72 aircraft with
variations in some cases. If other ATR72 operators wish to embody this
Service Bulletin, please contact ATR.

Interchangeability code according to ATA SPEC 2000.
Mixability: The DUNLOP and MESSIER-BUGATTI nose wheels are not mixable.
However, it is possible to have the main landing gear equipped with parts
from MESSIER-BUGATTI package (wheels + brakes) and the nose
landing gear equipped with parts from DUNLOP package and vice-versa.
B. REASON
The present Service Bulletin proposes the replacement of MESSIER-BUGATTI nose

wheels by DUNLOP ones.
COMPLIANCE: Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin is optional.
C. DESCRIPTION
Accomplishment of this Service Bulletin consists in carrying out the following jobs:
(1) Removal of the nose landing gear wheels
(2) Installation of the new nose landing gear wheels

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A. GENERAL
The following instructions assume that work will be accomplished when the aircraft is in
the appropriate maintenance configuration.
B. JOB SET-UP
(1) Put the aircraft on jacks as per MP ATR-A-07-12-XX-01ZZZ-172Z-A.
WARNING: - BEFORE STARTING THE JOB PLACE A SAFETY BARRIER TO

LIMIT THE LANDING GEAR AREA.
- DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISASSEMBLE WHEEL UNTIL TIRE HAS

BEEN COMPLETELY DEFLATED, OTHERWISE, SERIOUS INJURY
TO PERSONNEL OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN RESULT.
(2) Check that the landing gear ground locking pins are in place.
(3) In zone 210, on panel 404VU:
Display a warning notice prohibiting landing gear operation.
(4) In zone 210, on panel 121VU
Open safety clip and tag the following circuit breakers:
(FIN 1GA) LDG GEAR/CTL & PRIM IND

(FIN 1GC) N/W STRG/VALVES.
C. MODIFICATION
(1) Removal of the nose landing gear wheels
As per Figure 1
(a) Remove:
2 cotter pin MS24665-134 Item 6 (not re-used)

2 nut MS17825-3 Item 2 (re-used)
2 washer NAS1149F0332P Item 3 (re-used)

2 wheel axle nut D61663 Item 4 (re-used)
(b) Remove the wheel/tyre assemby, item 1.
(c) At the bench:
Disassemble the tyres (re-used) from the MESSIER-BUGATTI wheels

(C20589000) (not re-used) as per CMM 32-49-43.
(2) Installation of the new nose landing gear wheels
As per Figure 1
(a) At the bench:
Install the tyres (retained at removal) on the new DUNLOP wheels as per
CMM 32-42-91:

(b) Inflate the tyres as per MP ATR-A-32-41-XX-00ZZZ-360Z-A.
(c) Visually inspect wheel axle for general conditions as per

MP ATR-A-32-41-XX-01ZZZ-310Z-A.
Degrease and clean wheel axle with white spirit, Material No. 11-024 (Refer to
SRM 51-35-00).
(d) Lightly smear grease on the wheel axle.
NOTE: Use only grease Material No. 04-004B (Refer to SRM 51-35-00) to
lubricate.
CAUTION: Do not apply any rubber compound in the area near and between
shock absorber and internal axle spacer.
(e) Carefully fit wheel/tyre assembly, item 1 on wheel axle.
(f) Apply grease to axle threads, axle nut threads and to all load-bearing surfaces of
axle nut.

(g) Thread:
2 axle nut D61663 Item 4 *
onto the axle until it is snug and tighten at a pre torque value of 4 daN.m
(360 lbf.in) while manually rotating the wheel. Back off the nut to zero torque but
with all parts still seated. Retighten nut at a final torque value of 1.3 daN.m
(120 lbf.in) while manually rotating the wheel.
If the nut is not at a locking position, advance it to the next locking position.

(h) Fit:
2 bolt AN3-5 Item 5 *
Install:
2 washer NAS1149F0332P Item 3 *

2 nut MS17825-3 Item 2 *
Tighten nut to a torque value of 0.3 daN.m (26 lbf.in).
NOTE: If unlocking friction of nuts item 2 is less than 0.02 daN.m (1.8 lbf.in)
discard nuts.
* Item retained at removal Para. 3.C.(1)(a).
(j) Install:

Rotate bolt assembly thru 180°, and form cotter pin end over to secure.
D. TESTS
None.

E. CLOSE-UP
(1) Remove the safety barrier.
Remove the warning notice.
Remove safety clips and tags and close the following circuit breakers:
- (FIN 1GA) LDG GEAR/CTL & PRIM IND

- (FIN 1GC) N/W STRG/VALVES
(4) Lower the aircraft on its wheels as per MP ATR-A-07-12-XX-01ZZZ-172Z-A.
(5) Check the tyres pressure as per MP ATR-A-32-41-XX-00ZZZ-360Z-A.
