Heneral Luna Critique (Historical Criticism)

When I watched Heneral Luna, . It is full of action and exciting scenes. You can’t miss any single part of the

movie. It is also very informative and educational especially to students. They will learn a lot about Philippine

History and culture. I was amazed of how it was made. It was the aesthetic feeling I have experienced. I was

amazed of how the characters give justice to their roles especially John Arcilla, who played the role of Heneral

Antonio Luna. They did their best and that is the reason why the movie “Heneral Luna” received many awards

and good feedbacks. Heneral Luna is one of the best movie that we should be proud of. It is a form of art that

shows Philippine history and culture. It is also a form of art that shows the beauty of our country, Philippines.

But I think the people now a days is quite different, now we value the most things like cell phone, tablet,

and computers, we forgot to remember things that matters we forgot the true meaning of heroism and sacrifice

some people thought that It was easy to become a hero by helping others. No that’s a big no to me a hero must

be able to serve not only some people but all of the people in this country. He even have the mentality that “the

country first” he didn’t think her own safety but us, he cared for us. Now we must think that the mentality of

Heneral Luna is great and we must imitate it, to become better not just for our self but for our country.

Joven Hernando is a fictional character created by the director, his name means “young” or “youthful” in

Spanish. He is also the narrator of the movie. He represents us millennials, our modern generation. He is an eye-

opener to all of us. He let us see what was going on during the war, inside the government and the life of many

Filipinos before. He wants us to know what is the truth and what should we fight for. He encourages us to be

like Heneral Luna, who would do everything just to keep our country free from all invaders and wants us to

love our country and fight in our best own way. Lastly, he wants us to give honor to all of the heroes of our

country, Philippines.,

Heneral Luna Critique Paper (Sociological Criticism)

My mind’s still left wondering and wondering at devastating conclusion of Heneral Luna movie, the thoughts

hovering in my mind were overwhelming.

Of course we all knew that the Philippines has been colonized by different countries such as America, and

Spain. Many Filipino heroes defended and fought for our freedom. They even sacrificed their lives for our

country. And one of these heroes is Heneral Antonio Luna.

The message of the movie “Heneral Luna” is for us to remember that Filipino heroes fought many battles

against invaders to keep our country’s freedom. It is also a reminder for us to be aware of what is happening in

our country especially in the government. The movie shows crab mentality, selfishness and lack of discipline of

many Filipinos which are some of the reason why our country is still suffering until now. Heneral Luna also

emphasizes that we, Filipinos, are our own enemy. It is the most powerful message of the movie that we should

remember that always.

With Luna’s tough personality is his determination to take back the country’s independence, and not to be a

dictator leader, he don’t need any power of the government to be able to serve his country, he only needs a

courage and his troops to fight for our country and to the point of pushing almost everyone against him. That

Luna died in the hands of fellow Filipino’s, seeing it in action.

The movie was engaging because we are Filipino. We care about our country, our freedom, our fellow

Filipino and ourselves. It is our right to defend our freedom from invaders. It is our land and no one has the

right to rule us in our own country. We would not let anyone get what is for us.
