“Taghoy sa Dilim”

Through the years, illegal drugs and drug addiction have been considered as one the major
problems in the Philippines affecting a lot of people most especially the youth the “Taghoy sa
Dilim” or weeping in the darkness tell us a life lesson documentary narrating the ways drugs can
destroy the persons life. In the documentary drug directly and indirectly target the brain’s reward
system by flooding the circuit with dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter present in regions
of the brain that regulate movement, emotion, cognition, motivation, and feelings of pleasure.
When drugs enter the brain, they can actually change how the brain performs its jobs. These
changes are what lead to compulsive drug use, the hallmark of addiction.
Drug addiction is a societal menace, resulting in countless crimes, financial problems, and
broken relationships, both with families and friends. The documentary shows that illegal drugs
have immediate physical effects, and they also hinder psychological and emotional development,
especially among young people and causes addiction to the person who are using it.
Most drug users develop their substance abuse in their teens. In the Philippines alone, nearly half
of drug abuse cases reportedly start from 15 to 19 years old. A person end up trying different
drugs out of curiosity, peer pressure, mental health problems, social isolation, permissive
parenting and the absence of strict measures are the reason why people using drugs.
Drugs are one of the most dangerous and harmful enemies of the Philippines and the Filipinos,
overall the documentary implies that people must not use drugs or even plan on taking them, the
documentary also shows that it’s not too late to change, there’s a hope and that is accepting and
trusting God again.
