of Agriculture, Native Land Agriculture (DOA) Association (SDGA) Enterprise
& Regional Development Sarawak
(MANRED) Sarawak
YOUNG AGROPRENEURS (YA) WORKSHOP 2020 is
a series of workshop that will be held leading up to
the main event which is YOUNG AGROPRENEURS
(YA) WEEKEND 2020 slated for early December
2020.

While YA Weekend 2020 is more focused on the

issues, challenges and opportunities faced by young
people currently in the agriculture sector today, YA
Workshop 2020 is all about going back to the basics.

Its main purpose is to expose and educate the youth

on various smart farming techniques and modern
technology currently implemented across various
agricultural disciplines in hopes to inspire, create and
develop more young agropreneurs to safeguard the
future of the Nation’s food security.

“The average person is still under the aberrant delusion that food
should be somebody else's responsibility until I'm ready to eat it.”
- Joel Salatin, World’s Most Famous Farmer

Meliponines (or more commonly known as Kelulut) are stingless

bees that can be found in most tropical countries. The 2 most
popular species in Malaysia are Heterotrigona itama and
Geniotrigona thoracica. Their nests are constructed from wax they
produce and plant resins they collect and can usually be found in
tree cavities such as logs and underground.

They are active all year round and feed on nectars and pollen
from crops and flowers from their surroundings which greatly
impacts the quality and characteristics of the honey it produces.

Kelulut honey is said to have a number of health benefits when

consumed regularly such as the ability to improve blood
circulation, control blood sugar levels and helps to alleviate colds
and coughing, just to name a few.

D.H Trigona Farm Enterprise is founded by Mdm. Hollisa Gelingi Anak

Saban and Ir. Alphonsus Dorhat Rahani. What started as a hobby in
July 2016 with just 3 colonies of stingless bees (kelulut) at home,
operations soon expanded and due to the large number of colonies, it
was moved to the farm at Jalan Landeh in November 2016. Through the
owners’ passion and yearning to always learn, improve and acquire new
skills in Kelulut farming, today they have some 300 active colonies
producing around 50 kg of honey every 2 months. Ideally, once all hives
are fully matured, the owners target honey production to be at a total of
300kg per month or a potential monthly gross income of RM54,000.00.

As for the future, D.H Trigona Farm Enterprise plans to have at least 500
colonies by the end of 2020. They also intend to obtain international
certifications (Mesti, GMP & HACCP) which will open up more
opportunities to export their products outside of Sarawak and beyond.
Persatuan Pengusaha Kelulut Bumiputera Kawasan Sarawak, an
association for Bumiputera Kelulut Farmers, was also formed with Ir.
Alphonsus Dorhat Rahani being appointed as Advisor.
